:ghey:
One refers to it by the container and the brand.

Can = Cana Coke.

Glass Bottle = Bottla Orange

Large Plastic Bottle = Big Bottla Irn Bru.

(If however the purveyor does not supply glass bottles then it is sufficient to refer to a Large Plastic Bottle simply as a Bootla.)

If one seeks a larger quantity then an "s" is inserted twixt the "n" and the "a" e.g. half a dozen cansa Pepsi.

I think that is perfectly clear.

I forgot where you are the shops are "Open all Hours" type establishments.

What if you're in a chippie and the cans and bottles are behind the counter. In a custom built refrigerated unit, to which you have no access. How then would you guide the frier's assistant to your required beverage.

pop is a general term, just as you call them "fizzy drinks" if you what a particluar type of pop, you ask for it-
"Hey, I'm going into town for some pop, you want some?"
"Ya, I'd like a bottle of coke."

Understand? if you called them fizzy drinks, expect at least a blank stare, if not a few missing teeth.

oh ya, and coke>pepsi (mountain dew is alright)

I don't call them "fizzy drinks", I just thought the term was easier than "carbonated soft drinks" for the hard of thinking.

I have explained how I refer to them, at some length, earlier in this thread. You may wish to go back and read it.

I call pop (or whatever) something that roughly translates to drink.

Not "a drink" of the kind that comes with an optional umbrella, and/or an olive/slice of lemon.

So what I'd say translates as "I'd like some drink" if I'd like one. In the store tho', I usually use the brand name, if poss, to save time.

It may not be the same all over this country, but people who'd grown up around these parts would understand me, I reckon.

As for what I'm drinking right now, I've only got some lemony mineral water at home, so that's prolly what I'll be drinking, in a bit.

In the Carolinas and Georgia, all softdrinks are called "coke" then from there you designate a brand. gets really annoying when you say "I'd like a coke" and then they ask, "ok, and what kind would you like?"

So you would get :

Customer - "I'll have a coke please"

Shopkeeper - "What kind"

Customer - "Orangeade, please"

Shopkeeper - "Hokey Cokey, spunky"

We call them poofjuice. Not as in the juice from a poof, but the juice a poof would drink. Not from another poof, obviousement.
