...when a particular someone says that it's "no problem" to fix a friend's computer, I always end up doing it, and it always ends up being a bugger of a job?

Nine hours and counting. <_<

Hahaha....Sadly, that's pretty true. :( I can't claim ignorance because they already know I know.

Twelve hours, then I said fuck it and went to bed. It's going to be at least anohter twelve.

Just me but I cleanup computers on the side. I charge 1/5 to 1/4 what others around here do. By the time I see most computers they're so messed up it'll take 10hrs to fix everything software wise & install multiple layers of security. Like SWB, SSD etc. I tell them what it'll cost & they either want me to "do the best I can in 2hrs". Which is like serving up raw pork. Say they'll use it till it totally fails or buy a new cheapo $400-$500 computer.

Spent like 18+ hours recovering my computer. I accidently formated my windows HDD while trying to reinstall Mac os x and long story short reinstalled windows on a small partion to prevent data overage and used recover program to get back all my family pictures and music and tv shows and movies. Then had to reinstall windows and all apps and then installed mac os x and thats where i am.

And trust me thats IS the short story. I went through hell.

also what in the name of hell were you doing on that computer for 12+ hours.

See. I gave you advice and you don't follow it: http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/showpost.php?p=1258496&postcount=2

My suggestion would have prevented all that trouble,
