Busboy doesn't have a divx player. He has to tape stuff off the telly. No wonder he's bitter and twisted.

Download, burn, play. It's really not that complicated.

Feck sake a Welshman can do it.

:ph34r:Either shit roddage or shit thinkage.

Why would you have to encode something to watch it on your monitor.

Why would you have to encode something to watch it on your TV. DivX players are cheap - so are DVDrws.

As for downloading, if you're TiVoing something, that means there will be a wait between airing the program and you watching it. You can download it in that time.

The added bonus of a NewsHosting account is that you can use it for stuff that is not airing at the moment. Newsgroups have far, far more selection than your TV schedule. You click an nzb and max your connection, making it superior than other p2p.

If you had an account, you could even use it to get porn quickly for perusal in your wanking pit.

TiVo sucks c.f. a NewsHosting account. Fact.

Which means you've been rodding for months and months.

They are 2 different things, wankboy. I wouldn't trade one for the other.

With Tivo, I set it and forget it and actually the Tivo is more convenient for what I watch the most....current American TV in HD.

I have a Divx player in my Xbox, no probs there. (and it upconverts too)

Oh and I've been rodding (not trolling) for longer than that just 'cause it's fun.

Tivo and Newsgroups are 2 different animals.

Ok if I had to choose one I would pick Tivo out of shear convenience.
I already get any new DVD that comes out.

Newgroups (all internet TV downloads for that matter) are great if you want a TV show that you recently missed on network TV. It's also good for getting the obscure.

For you to watch the most recent episode of Lost or BSG, you have to dl the episode or wait 'till brat telly shows it.

I would only dl if my power went out thus shutting off my box.

My point was that TiVo is a neat thing (by the sounds of it), but as things go Newsgroups totally pwns it. TiVo is very much limited to TV as far as I know, and a couple of hours delay and a cable from a PC into a TV doesn't present much of a viewing problem for a competent downloader. Thus Newsgroups > TiVo.

TiVo (or RVD) is a device I would maybe buy if I wasn't proficent at getting content off of the internet or I had trouble setting my video recorder. Just like I would post a letter to my mum if I didn't know how to use email (though to be honest, shouting out of my window really loud would also work in my case).

It's like questioning a person with a VCR, "why record when you can download it?" :slap:Doh!!:slap:

Not only that Tivo records in HD and I don't always see HD quality off teh dl. Once you watch in HD it's hard to watch regular definition.

Then you don't have subscribed TV at all then.

Good man and now it makes sense.

I take it you live in bratland.

If BSG comes on over here at it's regularly scheduled time and I miss it, I go and select it and watch it when I'm ready.

If it's available, you will download it, and either watch it on your piece o shit monitor or burn it to disc and watch it on your Divx player in standard definition. I did forget you might have the computer hooked up to your TV (like most people do apparently), so you download it and play it on your piece o shit TV.

I did something similar for Dr. Who although the PQ was no HD. I'm not really interested nor do I know about a multitude of brat shows so for TV......

Tivo > Newsgroups

I still have stuff on Tivo I haven't watched yet. I just saw Napoleon Dynamite not long ago ffs (good movie).

At the rate that HD content has prevaded Newsgroups (coupled with ever increasing broadband speeds) and the continued ease of use of programs like Grabit in the last year that assertion will start to sound hollow.

If TV programming in the States was shit and brat TV was teh shizzle I'd loive newsgroups > Tivo too.

I at least thought some of the folks saying newsgroups > Tivo at the very least used Tivo before.

I have used both.

I think BSkyB is rolling out HD service this year and there already is Euro1080/HD1.

Once you watch in HD you'll never wanna go back. You'll think a DVD picture is shit.

I had tons of movies on DVD that I had never seen and waited until I got an upconvert player to watch them.
