OK, a few things..... 1) Is it true that with dial-up, ewverytime you connect you get another IP address?
2) Is that the same thing with DSL?
3) Does anyone know how often Cable ISPs change their IP address?
1. yes everytime you dial you get different ip.
with cable and dsl, bit different, ive had same ip for bout 2 months as i got a router, where as some isp allocate static ips. mine is dynamic but not able to change,
if its dynamic, i think it changes if you restart you comp.
or if you reboot your modem,
This would be better suited for places like Questions or Hardware World...
1) Yes
2) Yes but with some providers, NO
3) no clue

I know that with my cable modem (ntl), if you don't have it switched on for 24 hours then the ip resets itself.

Sounds right, if the cable modem is giving no response, maybe it will reset the IP. If I want to change my IP address, (i dk why or when) I'll keep that in mind. Thanx.
I'm on dialup & my ip is still the same as from day one. (sure av said this before somewhere else)
