how come 99% of the movie files on kazaa are .avi's? i know most people convert to .mpg for vcd recording. so why does none of those mpg's ever get put onto kazaa. i mean, yes, i can convert them myself, but wouldnt it be easier to already have them as mpeg1?

im sure there is a logical explination to this. im sure im not this 1st person to wonder, or post about this.

just curious.

avi's offer better compression so the files are smaller and better quality.

and people leave avi's on there pc because they cannot play them on their dvd player.

most people copy the mpegs straight to disc and delete them off there pc to save room. this kinda makes finding sources hard.

They are mpeg . . . MPEG-4 :D

Also, DVD movies are MPEG-2. If you can shrink a DVD from 4-7GB down to one or two CDs, you can see why.

i use to use tmpeg... but its not that fast

Keep it avi...

In a few months time all dvd players will be able to play DIVX - avi...
So there will be no need for converting them to MPEG.
Avi is imo way better quality..
