This box only has an AGP slot, so I'm not able to get a PCIE card. :( A certain someone wants it for Oblivion.

Which is the best choice between the X800 and X1600?

x800GTO = under $200, 12 pipes, 256 bit interface, higher clocks

x1600PRO = a few bucks less (for the 256MB), 12 pipes, 128 bit interface, lower clocks

I'd go with the x800 just on the strength of the 256 bit interface
but that's just me

x800gto doesnt have shader model 2.0, but x1600 does..

the x1600 has shader model 3.0 :rolleyes:

and anyway, after I postes I read some negative reviews about the X800 + Oblivion

The x1600 is that built or powered by ATI ? Reason I ask is I saw a Diamond x1600 powered by for $199.00 CND . My Ati Radeon 9700 pro is on its last legs, the fan is going and trying to decide on a new card or a fan repacement setup for my aging system .

Just foud a ATI-Sapphire Radeon X1600Pro 256MB $155 CND .

Got the Sapphire x1600 Pro 512MB. Figure I'll have to upgrade the machines next time anyway (for something with a PCIE slot), so it'll do until then.

X800 > X1600 performance wise.

But X1600 has HDR and SM3.0, whereas X800 only supports bloom and SM2.0.

Go with the X800 if you want more power (run Oblivion at higher res) or X1600 if you want HDR and run the game with lower settings.
