I don't know if this would be possible to create but anyways ill share the idea.

http://twister.sitesled.com/index.php.htm

As you see the news would be posted like that and there would be a short description there. The front page now is so big and i doubt that people would go scrolling down to see what else is there. That means that only the story on the top would get seen.

With this you see all or most of the recent stories. IF you click on it the story would open in the same page like it would float down and open up. ( I don't know if this is possible on VB) After it opens up you can read it or close it up and open up other ones.

Example would be like in gmail when you have an email conversation you can open and close each message.

It would be OK if the news posts were shorter but then we don't get as much info in.
On neowin.net they ahve two seperate news post messsgae boxes. Enter a few lines into the first box and the rest in the second.
The whole first box is shown, then if the user entered something in the second box it would only show after clicking 'read more'.
We can't do that since this is a forum unless you want to split the news into 2 posts.

Could a system be made so if you post news it would make it into 2 posts. There would be like 3 boxes.

*Enter Story Title
*Short Description 1-2 Sentences
*Full Story Here

The short description would be the one on the front page and the Full story would be in the News Section of the Forum. Since there arent many news posts it would cause any slowdowns to the forum becuase of the 2 postings.

That could be done, only problem is that some users might not want to use both fields so the posts end up being messed up...

Think maybe just showing the days current stories or the last two the way it is now with the rest showing in the archive below might lighten the page up a bit. Then allow the archives to just feed the first couple lines in with a more link...

You could make it like so an error report comes up if something that could mess it up is not filled. Like "Please Fill out the Front Page Description and Click Post"

That way there would be no chance of things being messed up. Its not that hard to put a sentence or two in to be displayed on the Front Page.

Nice Idea. So the first few storied will be displayed the current way and this new idea would only affect the archive.

Thats the thought to lighten up the page rather than having scroll mania.
Also this way no addition input would be needed on the posting...

The only problem there was is that the front page was way to long and took forever to scroll down. Most users don't scroll down as shown by statistics and just glance at the page. This made all the news at the bottom just space wasteful and needed to be made smaller. The news is still there but made more efficient.
