Im Currently Running a 1.4ghz athlon Processor and thinking of upgrading, can anyone recommend a good cpu for my current motherboard, is a Explorer, dont know the model no, but its about one year old and socket A,

Download and run Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/Programs/Crucial/advisor.exe). It will tell you everything about your PC, your motherboards model, how much RAM you have, etc. That way you can tell us what motherboard you have.

yea i used the prog u recommended and it came up

Board: MicroStar Inc. MS-6511 1.0
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T 0628

I Have 512mb of Kingston 133 Ram

And My Gfx is a Radion 9000 4xAGP 128Mb

Maybe a mainboard+cpu combo-dealy? (Is your computer a Packardbell or NEC?) This (http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/explorer.htm) says that a Athlon XP2000+ @ 266 MHz will fit in there nicely if a new MB is out of the question :)

Just make sure you have the latest Bios update so that the board will recognize/supprt the cpu. According to the page provided by KANADIANborn, you're gonna need it.
