Where to get a cheap new fan for heatsink?

I believe the fan on my heatsink is on its way to failure. I have a AMD 2500 barton, stock thermal pad & hsf. Over 3 years old. It's making a louder than normal sound. Not gawdawful just louder. So I want to purchase a name brand fan. Its got a 3 pin connector. I don't OC so nothing special desired/required. Not interested in a heatsink just a fan. So in the US, wheres the cheapest place to get a quality fan? For net sales including s&h or nationwide brick & mortar store. Thanks.

Never seen such a thing....bet it causes a lot of blow back through the fan.

Yeah. I tried making a 60 to 92mm. I turned out to be less efficient than a 60 to 80mm adapter.

We know what you're talking about...putting a larger fan on in place of the stock little one.

My previous observation still stands.
Air, like water, will always take the path of least resistance.
In your case that will probably be back out through the fan rather than the small 60mm opening and into the restrictive fins.

You will be forcing more air into the HS so temps might improve some but at the cost of increased noise, I'll bet.

Oh OK. Silly me. Clocker with your humor I thought you were joking. Anyways to stop the leakage could I make or where to acquire a gasket of some sort? If so what material or where to get one? Thanks.

What I actually noticed was that the larger fan would cause the adapter to position the fan farther away from the heatsink and actually resulted in lower airflow at the fins (higher temps). I even tried different 60 to 80mm adapter designs. Sharper angled taper, putting the 80mm fan closer to the heatsink resulted in lower temps in my tests.

Really now...hmmm.
I'd have thought that further away (within reason of course) would tend to lessen the "dead spot" effect of the fan hub and work better, but far be it from me to dismiss empirical evidence.

BTW, it's not "leakage" that will get you- so no gasket is needed- more, I should think, the turbulance and small opening that will be the issue.

Anyways, 92 to 60mm seems a bit much.
Interesting to see how this works out.

I have certainly done my fair share of strapping large fans to small objects just to see what will happen.
If nothing else, it keeps one off the streets.

I have honestly always thought that the fan draws air off the heatsink rather than blowing air onto it.
