Hi,

I am building a Computer and I want to have a SATA2 Hard-drive but someone bought me a SATA Hard-drive for a present.
Question is.. can I still have a SATA2 set up and just use the SATA drive for just storage?
Will it affect the speed of my SATA2 drive? i.e. can you have 2 drives ...1x SATA and 1x SATA2 on the same motherboard?

Cheers
:)

Yes you can use them both. No effect on speed.

Is SATA2 taht different from SATA?

I bet the difference is barely noticable.

Going to SATA I (150 MB/s) from ATA 100 (100 MB/s) made a world of difference.

But, yeah, you're right. I'm sure that double the speed (300 MB/s vs 150 MB/s) won't be noticeable. :stars:

Are you sure about that? Specifically what drive?

Most drives aren't internally fast enough to be able to transfer at or above 100 MB/s.

First of all guys, it ain't SATA2 it is SATA II...

Second, SATA and SATA II are two "backwards compatible" technologies.. Just like USB1.1 and USB2.

Both SATA and SATA II drives can be used with SATA and SATA II slots.

So, if you run a SATA II disk on a SATA slot; it will work but it will lower its speed down to 150 MB/s. :)
