Hi ppl, i can't seem to delete some media files. It says the file is being used by a program. But im 100% sure no programs are using the file. I even restarted the computer and tried deleting the file. Can someone help me fix this problem?

p.s. im using Windows XP Cop with SP1

only thing i can tell you is to make sure they really are media and not some virus.
Do a virus scan.
And make sure media isn't being played (i know you are sure but this is all i can tell you)

Hi, this is my first post,so hopefully it will work,i registered about 3 hrs ago
and this is the first time its let me in without an error message.
i have sufferd from the same problem quite a bit recently, and a comp nerd
friend of mine gave me a few suggestions that work sometimes with different types of files, first try to cut the file and then paste it to the recycle bin, another way is to change the name of the file, hope one works.
and can anyone tell me how to get one of those trendy pictures up in the
top left of my post, i just gots to have one.
ta, neil

To be sure no programs are running press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, if some programs still are running close them!
another thing make sure that you have closed kazaa right, by clicking FILE and then EXIT

When you try to delete the files - make sure you are not connected to Kaazaa as this will sometimes stop you deleting.

Hope this helps

or you could restart in DOS mode and delete it there.

Crtl-Alt-Delete doesn't always show you everything that's running. Download the program called Starter from this website, and see if you can figure out what program is accessing that file...

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Downright_p...nfiguration.htm (http://www.answersthatwork.com/Downright_pages/downrights_pcconfiguration.htm)

Use this section of that same website to determine what some of your running task are...

If all else fails, use a boot disk to get to a clean DOS prompt and use the 'del' command to remove the file. (I don't have XP so I'm not sure if you can still do this)

I just thought of another suggestion... download and run Spybot.

If the media file your trying to delete is in your shared folder then all you got to do is uninstall k-lite,delete the media file, then re install k-lite.Have had this happen to me a few times now and this has always rectified the problem.

Good luck and let us know if it works for you. :)

Same as dos mode almost, start up in safemode and try deleting the file.

Yes startup in safemode!
You should absolutely be able to delete it there.
If it won't delete there it loves you!!! :D

right click on the file and select properties then mak shure that read only and system file is not checked

if it still wont deleat try opening it in note pad or word pad and delet it from there

if ur still having problems try doing a scan disk it may be gone but has left lost clusters

Rite I have the same problem! When your deleting MP3 files they just delete like that. However when your deleting video files you will hit an error, what i find you have to do is highlight the file and wait till the picture of the film appears on the side bar. Then you can delete it!
