Ill start w/ Tupac / Still I rise , Cannibus /Secand round knockout,
Gangstar /Battle,M.O.P / Calm down,
Lost boyz /Jeeps Lex coups bimez benz.

Not the very best , but still very good.

A great track that hardly gets mentioned and was my favourite track for about six months is Shabaam Sahdeeq - Elevated. Also a bit more well known but almost as good is Common - The 6th Sense.

Also:

Afu-Ra - Caliente
Big L - Times Is Hard On The Boulevard
Killarmy - Wake Up
Lootpack - Weededed (and the remix of that tune)

Beating them all is Roots Manuva - Witness (must be played LOUD). The phattest bassline you've ever heard!

I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of those.

If you don't mind UK stuff the album in my sig is a classic. Probably not easy to find but I've got it on our music database program if you know about that.

I think this is obviously gonna be people saying songs from there favourite artists but anyway, here's mine:

eminem: "If I get locked up tonight"
(well, most of his songs especially the "marshall mathers LP".

dr.dre: "the watcher",
"forgot about dre"
"whats the difference"

tupac: "hit 'em up"
"brenda's got a baby"
"california love"

50 cent: "in da club"
"wanksta"
"P.I.M.P"

ahhhhh, there's loads. I give up.

Nahan,

Walk this Way = an old song reinterpretated

If I Ruled The World = an old Kurtis Blow song

Street Dreams = an old Eurythmics song sampled heavily

Let Me clear My Throat = uses the "900 number" beat

All these songs sample classics, so what??? What is your point??? Hip-Hop was founded on the use of samples and breaks or have you forgotten?? :P

Grandmaster Flash is a Deejay so he also uses other peoples beats/tunes. I've never heard him Rap but by his own admission it'd be "bad". Not in a good way either!! There's nothing wrong with using other peoples beats, although a lot of artists seem to bring nothing new to the tune which is a shame. Murder Inc are a prime example of this trend. Nahan was just trying to appear clever again and failing miserably!!

If you like Grandmaster Flash check this LP out:

The Official Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash.

"The first official old skool block party mix CD/LP by the Original Turntable Scientist."

It's a great album mixing rare interview excerpts, old skool mixes and classic tracks. Well worth seeking out. The booklet you get with it is very informative about late 70's/early 80's Hip-Hop. Hope you can get it, I'd put it on Kazaa but haven't got the right lead to hook up my record deck to the PC. :(

Soopman has gotta very valid point there...Thats why i like grandmaster flash...a good original hip hopster (i might be wrong but being in australia...you have to rely on other people's word to get news about old-school hip hop...)

Another for the list:

Prince Paul - Politics Of The Business LP

How do you figure ? trying to be clever.

Thoses songs are good, what the hell have you posted
in the last couple of pages.

Real commercialization of urban music hasnt taken place up until the last 6 years or so.
Mass production and explotation.
Its popularity is at it peak

A record ,man put up or shut up.

Nahan,

I suppose TAMLA MOTOWN wasn't "urban" music in your eyes?? Your ridiculous argumentative posts have, once again, shown you up to be ignorant of even the most basic musical knowledge.

Not quite sure what you mean by "A record ,man put up or shut up". I buy vinyl because it sounds better and is worth more in the long term.

Which of the tunes I've mentioned are overly commercial??

;)

Well for starters you wanna sit back and criticize the music I post ,
call it mainstream and then put up a few songs and a record.

Theres nothing wrong w/ what you posted or lack of.

I was simply trying to deffend MY opinion, you called it mainstream.
I disagree.
Also I made a point about urban music becoming commercialized,
at the new height of its popularity.

Its funny the way you interpret things.

The topic is simple "Coolest rap and hip hop songs ever",
if you dont think the songs I mentioned arent cool or great.
Then to hell w/ you.

Put up "songs" or shut up.

I wasn't criticising your choice of tunes, some I don't like - some I do, it's just that you fail to regard other peoples opinions as highly as your own. As soon as anyone says anything you disagree with you give them loads of abuse and try to make them look like a twat. When someone points out your many, many inadequacies and faux pas you go off your head!! Chill out mate. B)

I could post a long list of tunes, it'd take a long, long time to dig all my LP's and 12"s out though. When you've been collecting Hip-Hop as long as I have it takes a while. Come back when you get a decent collection son. :P

Have you heard the SKILLZ freestyle over the "In Tha Club" beat. I think it's from Kay Slay's Drama Hour. Very, very good indeed!! It's called "Who's Sickest?". My answer that after listening to that freestyle it's SKILLZ. ;)

When does this happen ?...Kind of like what your doing to me ?

Hippocrite.

I disagree w/ all the insane clown posse stuff and I dont say anything about it,because its a pointless agrument .And his opinion.

The idea here is to post alot of great songs that are older ,basically ones that havent comeout in the last 60 seconds.

You want to talk about how you have a great collection ,lets hear it.
Put up or shut up.

As I said, "it'd take a long, long time" Nahan. I've been buying Hip-Hop records for as long as you've been on the planet. I've got loads of records and could name thousands of tunes, mostly underground stuff. Why should I give away the "Crown Jewels" all at once??? When you've put as much time and money into buying Hip-Hop as I have come back and have a reasoned discussion!! When did you start buying Hip-Hop?? Or do you just leech it off other people??

Thank you for making me to listen to some old tunes again. ;)

Good call, it's damn good. It's on a Rawkus Radio mixtape as well, along with Talib Kweli over Wanksta!
