Hmm, i d/l a 200 mb movie file in mpg. format. I wanted to convert into a DVD file so i d/l TMPGEnc(latest version)

Here are the steps that i took to encode the file to DVD format.

1) Used the wizard and went to DVD- NTSC (I selected CBR MPEG-1 Layer II Audio MP2)

2) I selected my file, the audio for the file popped up automatically. (The audio file was also in mpg. format, should it be?)

3) The aspect ratio was "1:1" Video type was "non-interphase" Content of movie was "Video Movie"

4) I did not select any filter settings but i did change the "Video Aspect Ratio" to "Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio"

5) The next page next page had "auto select and auto setting" checked off, so i didnt change anything.
The movie info said the movie ran at 720x 480, 29.97 fps
48000 Hz stereo
20min 09 seconds (it was not porn, it was an abb workout video <_< )
The rest of the settings on the page said "average video bitrate: 7998 kbits/sec"
"Audio bitrate: 384 kbits/sec"
"Estimated File Size:   1228.42MB   <_< "
" DVD-R 4.7 GB (UDF) Makes file size 29.25 %of disk"

6) The last page had start encoding immdiately checked off, the other two boxes were not.

This is my first attempt at encoding and burning a DVD from any type of video file, if im missing something stupid, plz just tell me and not make fun of my NooB-ness :P

Thx

Why are you converting it to DVD? If it's already an mpeg, the quality is not going to improve any. You might as well just burn it as a VCD with Nero the way it is. The only reason to use TMPGenc here is if you want to change the aspect ratio or trim the file, or if it's not really a standard mpeg file (yes, there are different 'standards' for mpegs).

If you really want to make it a DVD (which I've never done), try looking here for more help...

Take a 80 min CD-R as the size that it should become.

Otherwise lower the bitrate to something more normal (2200).

hi there !
i've only converted mpeg to svcd at this stage. the file size on this conversion doubles in size. it would be similar encoding from svcd to dvd 480x480 compared to 720x480. dvd as you know gives the highest quality and you probably have'nt done anything wrong, just play it and find out

well, the reason i was trying to convert it to a dvd file is because my dvd player is busted and i have to use my PS2 to watch dvds. Since i cant watch a vcd on the PS2 without an adaptor, its useless.
But how do i burn the mpg. as a vcd with nero? Do i just select VCD-Rom and then keep all the defaults, drag the file and then burn?

You got it - select Video CD from the wizard, then drag your .mpg into the new compilation and burn it.

I didn't know you couldn't play VCD's with PS2. If you can't afford a good DVD player, my advice to you is to look for an APEX brand. I got mine at Wal-mart for $60 and it plays everything - DVD, VCD, MP3, JPEG...

No problem. Here's a listing of other players and what kind of files they support...
