My iPod Nano 4gb has been just sitting idle on a table since it's last use in my truck. It was working just fine when I last used it. Today I picked it up and it had this symbol with the text www.apple.com/support/ipod written below it:

I couldn't do anything, it was frozen. I went to the appropriate website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003) where I began going through the troubleshooting tips one-by-one, but to no avail. The only one of the steps that made any difference was resetting the iPod. It now shows the iPod recharging (small icon in upper right corner) with a check mark in the center of the screen and the text OK to disconnect, all of which are in black and not utilizing the nice color screen.
I thought that maybe the iPod was fixed at first, but when I disconnect the iPod, it goes directly back to the folder and exclamation mark.
I did see a sticky involving Norton Disk Doctor (http://ipodgarage.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8990&sid=14190b89ed944ed36c0582b77472e108), but; 1) There were no posts verifying that anyone actually got this to work and 2) Said iPod was not a Nano.
Any advise for me??
