Hello,

I've just bought a new printer but when I went to install it, I found that my old one had disappeared from my system.
I tried installing my new one but ran into trouble, I then tried re-installing my old one but it told me that the Spooler Service was stopped, so I guess that was the problem with my new one too.
I can't turn on the Spooler Service because it needs a file to run that was removed when my old printer disappeared.

A strange problem but has anyone any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Did you try the device manager?
You can install drivers this way and maybe avoid problems.
Sometimes letting Windows(assuming that is your O/S) detect and find the drivers works better than inserting the printers' install disc.
If it connects via USB than that's the way to go.
Reboot while it's plugged in and powered on, follow the on-screen prompts.

I've never heard of the Spooler Service, so I assumed it must be an XP thing. Out of curiosity I did a quick search with Google and it directed me to a forum post at Annoyances.org (which also happens to be one of my favorite sites for finding solutions to Windows problems). Maybe it'll help you...

Thanks for your help folks, took the bull by the horns and did a repair using the XP disc.

My advice, NEVER buy a Lexmark printer, every forum I have been on there has been people with the same problem as I have had.

Once again thanks.

I'll second that advice. They're junk (as I too have found out).
