Brazil is the only (I think) Portugese speaking South American country because when the Spanish & Portugese divided the new land between them, they agreed that Spain would hold dominion over anything East of a certain Longditude, and Portugal would over anything West of it.
I wonder how annoyed the Portugese were when they came to the sea so soon?
