Random,self-starting De-fragging

My computer starts de-fragmenting itself for no reason and different times,and sometimes several times in a day.It does this even after I have recently defragged it.What causes this and how can I stop it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

perhaps you should check if defrag is in 'sheduled tasks'. if it is, remove it. (goto control panel)

Sometimes a failing harddrive will do this.
Best to backup your files just in case of complete failure.

Thanks so much ugluk and balamm :D I checked in the scheduled tasks and freed up some disk space and now it seems to have stopped.
