Today we went to some beach in a wee place called Aberdour.

Probably the first time I've ever actually gone to a beach in Scotland with the intention of swimming ( silly me)

So in all my enthousiasm, I thought it would be a great idea to take a dip into the water, just off the rocks (and this was before I got drunk)

Jumped in and realised the water was about 5 degrees, so tried to jump out again

Only to tear open my left leg on the bloody mini shells stuck to the ff-in rocks

I smell of TCP and my favourite white trousers are covered in bloody. I've got papercut size cuts all over my hands and it hurts like fuck when I start sweating

Boohooo, I feel so sorry for myself

I didn't go in the sea with my trousers on, I had them one of the rocks and had to pick them up with my hands covered in blood.

From now on I'm staying right here with yous lot. It's safer

Physically anyway.

Nah don't fuck around on the forum. It's not as fun.

...and damn when is there summer weather where you are?

5 degrees? Don't test the water first anyway? Stick a toe in, ffs.

I recall taking the ex Mrs Biggles up the Orkneys to see the land of my childhood (and me folks who were still there at the time). The beaches are beautiful, long, empty, clean white sand. The sun was shining and she ran in for a paddle before I could say anything. It is first time and only time I have seen someone atttempt to walk (well run actually) on water. It was a tad more bracing than she anticipated.

PS Bad luck Sweeky, those barnacle type shells are sharp little blighters and best avoided.

Yeah, I might go back there though

Lovely wee place, and pretty good place to swim if it would be really hot.

maybe when the climate changes, or the sun moves a bit closer to the earth

Also it is not so bad once you get used to it. I learned to swim in sea up in the Orkneys - you just have to scream a lot for the first couple of minutes - then your body goes numb (and a bit blue) :ermm:

They were also a key factor in a quality keel hauling.

Do they still do that?

And that thing you pass under the boat when you pass the equator? Do they still do that too?

The Neptune thing is still hot to trot but keel hauling is considered a bit strict by modern standards.

What happens these days if there's a mutiny for some reason?
You should know, having worked for the Navy and that

They would stll take a dim view of it but I think it would just be jail followed by a dis-honourable discharge.

I believe they never actually revoked the flogging rules but they don't do that anymore either (well only for fun by all accounts :naughty: ) I am sure I read somewhere that hanging is still on the statutes for eating one of the Queen's swans.

It's not, you know :no2:

No one goes swimming in the seas above the Scottish border, thats why we allowed Hadrian to build his wall ...the seas at those latitudes are just too b***** cold..

Yea I know how that feels. I live next to a beach. You don't just jump right into the water, you have to check the temperature with your hands or feet.
