You may need to pull the small battery aswell... 15mins before plugging it back in.

and there is also a jumper on the motherboard which you can use to clear the password in the cmos... but don't forget to replace it on the right connections before you boot back up

Good advice , I hate taking apart laptops .:D

In some older HP notebooks holding down the " insert key " while booting clears the password .

I think there are more ways to do it: universal password, maybe battery. I had this problem myself long time ago when somebody put password on my bios at store i bought my puter. I don't know really how i solve it, but i know when i bought more disks i played with cabels and jumpers a lot and the next thing i knew i could enter my bios lol. The first time this happend to me on 386 i think i used the universal password.

I always laugh when reading about bios passwords on a laptop. Its enough to drive you mad.My son was given a toshiba laptop with a locked bios password. The IT guy at my father inlaws work said it wasn't worth the cost of repair...Well I used the loop connector tool found here http://markus.birth-online.de/info_bios.php
Voila unlocked :) one happy son...

I always find it funny when someone brings me an effed up PC,
needing hardware diagnostics, with a password protected BIOS, and then fail to provide the password.
The Ultimate Boot CD has a couple of nifty tools for taking care of that.
