Winamp Not Shutting Properly

When i close winamp it is still running in the backround, for e.g when i shutdown i have to 'end process' winamp and also when i close winamp then play a track again, it freezes windows explorer...any suggestions?

uninstall it, remove everthing in the winamp folder that gets left behind and then reinstall.

probably a dodgy plugin or upgrade but the clean reinstall works for me
