Free Newsserver

just thought members here would like to try a free newsserver,i have been using this for about 9+ months and used it to download hundreds of gigs worth of binaries etc

Newsserver address:freebin.readnews.com
Server Login:Any ( it does not require a login as such just put anything )
Server Password Any ( Again anything will do )

you can get about 4 concurrent connections and download speed is good,retention is about 4-5days but hey its free ,i have given this server to a number of my friends and they have not had a problem using it,it seems to support a fair few newsgroups,not sure how many but not had a problem with getting things from them so dont seem like a problem

the max bandwidth is 25 KB/s .. not too good..but its free

Its slow speed is made good use of by the best clients to automatically fill in completion holes in ISP news servers.

I've found this site http://www.sforum.nl/nntp/ there are list of free newsservers, click on Binaries on the top of site to select only binaries servers

just thought of something, when you have use a pay service they always claim that they do not log what you download at that they have a privacy policy for the customers protection. When you add a free newserver you wont be covered with this protection.

Just something to think about.

guys check out sometimes newsgroup called alt.free.newsservers...even though there are a lot of spam but sometimes there are a piece of useful news

from this server but incomplete ..most file from this server is incomplete
from today :(

now i use newsleecher v3.7 final and all works best :)
this was grabit problem ,,newsleecher is best
my speed is 100 kb/s - 250 kb/s :)

Safer than other means of downloading files, yet probably not as safe as a premium news server, you never know if those free guys keep logs or not...

It wasnt ment to really be a reliable server. Its supposed to be used as either a trial server or used together to fill in holes with others. Always remember this, "You get what you pay for"
