Twas a good round. I knew he was in-it-to-win-it after he put up a 65 on Friday.

See him ballin after that last putt? Poor guy. :ermm:

He really is a superb golfer and is now the second best ever, in my opinion.

Way to go Eldrick. Get in the Hole.

Well it was his second game and first win without his pops.

I can understand.

I mean it's not like he was Adam Morrison, crying before he even lost the game. Leave Eldrick alone, you schlemiel.

I can understand. You mean to say that Tiger Woods' father died and this was Tiger's first subsequent Major win and that's why he got all emotional.

I had no idea. Where are you getting this specialist info :o

GRAND BLANC, Mich. (AP) - The ultimate goal for Tiger Woods is to surpass Jack Nicklaus' record for victories in professional majors.

Along the way, he also hopes to break Sam Snead's mark for PGA Tour wins.

Woods won his 50th PGA Tour title Sunday, shooting his fourth straight 6-under 66 for a three-stroke victory over Jim Furyk in the Buick Open.

"I've had a lot of wonderful things happen to me in my career so far on tour in 10 years," he said. "It's been a great ride."

Woods reached a season-low 24 under and made a career-high 28 birdies in the tournament to hold off Furyk - who closed with a 64 - for his fourth win of the year. Woods earned $864,000 to push his tour-leading total to $5,127,563.

He picked up his latest win after his emotional victory in the British Open and before he shoots for his 12th major in two weeks at the PGA Championship, where he hopes to close in on the record he covets: Nicklaus' 18 pro major championships.

Woods became the seventh member of the PGA Tour's 50-win club and improved to 21-for-21 when leading by more than one stroke after three rounds. The 30-year-old Woods beat Nicklaus' record pace to the milestone, which Nicklaus reached in 1973 at 33.

Snead is atop the PGA Tour's career wins list with 82, ahead of Nicklaus (73), Ben Hogan (64), Arnold Palmer (62), Byron Nelson (52) and Billy Casper (51).

Woods said "hopefully" he'll have enough success to catch Snead.

"It's going to be a lifetime, a career, to get to that point and attain something like that," Woods said. "It took me 10 years to get here, hopefully I can continue playing well over the next 10, 20 years."

Woods has won nearly a fourth of his 210 PGA Tour events. Nicklaus won his 50th title in his 280th start.

Vaughn Taylor, who finished five shots back, is in awe of Woods.

"He's probably the greatest player to ever play the game, and we get to watch him every week," Taylor said. "I can't even imagine doing the things he's done."

This year, Woods' four victories have come in 11 events.

At Warwick Hills, he likely ended any hopes his competitors had when he made four birdies on the front nine to build on the two-shot lead he had at the start of the fourth round.

Woods bogeyed the 12th hole, allowing Furyk to tie him briefly.

"I kept saying to myself, 'If Jim ties me, I'm still in the driver's seat because I have the easier holes coming up,"' Woods said.

He took the lead alone for good at 13 when his approach from 105 yards landed close enough for a tap-in birdie. At 15, Woods' birdie gave him a two-shot lead and essentially clinched his second Buick Open victory.

After making a 7-foot par putt at 17, Woods took a two-shot lead into the final hole and was able to enjoy his latest victory stroll up the fairway where an overflow crowd cheered louder each step that he got closer to the green. Fittingly, he made a birdie at 18.

Woods, also the 2002 winner at Warwick Hills, fell one stroke short of his 72-hole record of 25-under 263 from the 2002 WGC-American Express Championship, then said he really doesn't like playing in shootouts.

"I enjoy playing where single digits is a good winning score," he said.

Joe Durant (67) finished four shots back, alone in third. Taylor (68) and Scott Verplank (69) tied for fourth at 19 under with Sean O'Hair (67) to improve their chances of earning spots on the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Taylor moved up to seventh and Verplank went from 22nd to 18th. The top 10 players earn automatic berths on the team next month in Ireland.

Vijay Singh had a chance to become the first player to win three straight Buick Opens - and four overall - when he started the day three shots back. But Singh closed with a 70 to tie for 11th at 17 under.

"I never got any momentum going," he said. "I drove the ball beautifully, but couldn't make anything."

After winning at Royal Liverpool, Woods sobbed uncontrollably in the arms of caddie Steve Williams and wife Elin because he won for the first time since his father's death in May.

The scene at Warwick Hills' 18th green was one the world has become more accustomed to since he turned pro in 1996. After making a 10-footer to match the score he had in the three previous rounds, he pumped his fist, punched the air, tipped his cap and smiled as he wiped sweat - not tears - off his face.

"At this course, the goal is to shoot 66 every day," Williams said. "I guess we accomplished that, eh?"

Woods slumps to Match Play defeat

World number one Tiger Woods suffered a shock first-round exit to fellow American Shaun Micheel at the World Match Play Championship at Wentworth.

Woods, winner of his last five tournaments, was below his best and lost 4&3 to the former USPGA champion.

World number two Jim Furyk is also out, beaten 4&3 by Swede Robert Karlsson, as is six-time winner Ernie Els, beaten 2&1 by Angel Cabrera.

But Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Luke Donald and Michael Campbell all won.

Defending champion Campbell turned around an early two-hole deficit to win 3&1 against Englishman Simon Khan.

He will next face Montgomerie, who took the honours against Ryder Cup team-mate David Howell by one hole.

"I managed just to hang on," said Montgomerie. "I was never down all day, but he's a tough competitor."

Paul Casey, on his debut in the event, recovered from an early deficit to claim a fine 6&4 victory over South African Retief Goosen.

But world number five Adam Scott is out, losing 3&2 to Canada's Mike Weir.

Luke Donald looked set for an easy win over Tim Clark before the South African fought back to square the match after 33 holes.

But birdies on the last two holes ensured the Englishman and Campbell were the only two of the top eight seeds to progress.

A hat-trick of birdies from the third sparked Micheel's lead over world number one Woods, who bogeyed the 6th and 9th - the latter by missing a putt of under three feet.

"I felt like I hit the ball pretty decent all day but I just didn't make any putts," said Woods, whose putting was uncharacteristically poor all morning.

"I had my chances but I had a hard time with my pace on the greens."

Micheel was not at his best either, but grateful for a rare victory over the world number one.

"I don't think either of us played played really well," he said. "I played OK but not as well as I would have liked.

"I have finished second to Tiger more times than he has finished second to me. But he has been playing some great golf and will continue to do that."

However, no European player has won a Major for five(?) years and the US players are ranked, on average, a brazillion(?) places above their European counterparts.

Is home advantage worth that much? Can't be since we won easily a couple of years back in the US with, seemingly, inferior players.

Just what is it that makes Europe such overwhelming favourites in Tiger's eyes

I don't think so as Tiger has an appalling Ryder Cup record.

However, points are awarded over 18 holes, rather than the tournament standard of 72.

It's easier to play 18 holes than 72 - why would making the game easier work against the better players ... .

You see where I'm going with this, Busy.

Hell if you've seen Tiger's record he many times is coming back ftw. I don't see him kicking ass throughout the tourney but mainly he turns it up notch in the last round or so.

I remember him beating a guy recently in a playoff and the guy had the game in the palm of his hand and fucked it all up. Tiger pulls wins outta his ass, it seems. Also from what I gather from my resident Tiger follower in my crew, Tiger never really gives a hell about the Ryder Cup (yet gives a hell enough to show up:dry:). I wish he would so he could just add it to his resume.

I think home field advantage is worth that much. Just look at the numbers. Historically, Euro players have been ranked lower, yet the Ryder Cup is always a tough round for the Americans. Why, you ask? Weather, the crowds, the Europeans better knowledge of the course, i dunno. But we're due! :01:

Tiger Woods won the WGC American Express Championship for the fifth time in seven attempts, romping to victory by eight strokes at a stormy Grove course.

A closing four-under-par 67 on a day interrupted twice by lightning took Woods to 23-under-par 261, eight shots ahead of Australian Adam Scott (69) and England's Ian Poulter (66).

It was Woods' 12th WGC title and his sixth successive victory in strokeplay events.

This will rate among his easiest as he led from start to finish to collect the $1.3 million first prize and extend his lead on the world rankings even further.

Going into the final round six strokes ahead of Scott, the nearest his opponents got to him was five strokes and Woods led by seven at the turn.

Even his third bogey of the tournament, when he missed a five-footer to save par, after being bunkered before a second suspension for lightning, failed to stop his saunter to victory.

While 'only' a birdie on the 18th spoiled his run, after making eagles there for three successive rounds, Woods never had any serious challenger at the first WGC to be held in Britain.

He is now 109-under-par for his six successive strokeplay wins, which include victories in the British Open and US PGA Championship and two WGCs.

On Wednesday Woods said that the 11 tournament record 'streak' of Byron Nelson, who died on Tuesday, was "probably not possible" in an age of much fiercer competition than Nelson faced in his day.

His latest success, however, leaves Woods still well in the running to challenge Nelson's feat.

Also, I wouldn't say he was "skinny" by any means. I can't push up 300. :lookaroun

No, I didn't mean to insinuate you thought he was juicin' - it's just a running thing with Busyman.

What I meant was that he has a fairly lithe build; he must be supremely well-conditioned to be as strong as he must be to do 300.

I am a bit broader abeam, myself.

Well, the streak is over....damnit, damnit all to hell. I was really pulling for Tiger too. Beat by Nick O'Hern in a playoff at the Accenture Match Play Championships. Fucking O'Hern has been a thorn in Tigers ass too may times at the Match Play Championships. Oh well, he just got outplayed this year.

Still would have been great to see him break the record......especially with such a talented, strong and long hitting(J.B. Holmes, Bubba Watson) field of golfers that we have today.

Byron Nelson, your record lives on.....for now!

Yeah that would've been a hard record too break. As many speculate, Tiger cares most about the majors.
