View Full Version : HTT on AMD's... What does it do?

u got x1, x2, x3, x4, & x5 settings. x5 being 1000. yeah. so, what does it do? what i'm getting at is when oc'ing ur cpu many ppl recommend lowering it to x2 or x3. why? more oc's are better than more htt? maybe max htt and max cpu speed is best? i've googled and can't find my answers. input, plz?

right, understood, but what is the HTT? what is the difference between x2 and x5? if u have a 1ghz cpu and a 2ghz cpu u mite see a difference in processing time on certain things. what about htt?

my current rig i got oc'ed to:

2.55ghz / 232fsb / 232mhz ram with HTT x2 @ 1.7 v running @ 57c full load.

thought that was kinda hot and i don't know cut off temps for this cpu (what it can handle be4 burn up. or is 57 ok?) and i don't know if 1.7v is too much for my cpu either. pftt, can't find any info anywhere...

so, i'm going to bed now and prime95ing:

2.50ghz / 227.5fsb / 227.4mhz ram with HTT x3 @ 1.65 running @ 52c full load.

gonna let this cook for 6 hours and see if it stays. if so, i guess i'll just have to live with 2.5ghz. meh, was hoping for stable @ 2.6, but couldn't get it. stock air.

That should help explain the HTT...

Anyways why have you bumped the Volts upto 1.7 for a 32Mhz increase on the FSB.

Your better off leaving it at 1.5V and then working on getting a decent increase on the FSB with a lower multi.

HTT is Hyper Transport Technology. It is the bus that goes to external devices, ie between the cpu and the chipset.

On S939, S940 and AM2 it can run at 1GHz, but may not overclock as well as the CPU (because it's dependent on external bus lines and the motherboard chip), so you usually shouldn't aim for a speed above 1GHz until you've tested everything else.

Divide 1000MHz by your base CPU speed and you can see what you need to set your multiplier at, in your case 1000/227 = 4.41, so you should set the HT multiplier to 4x. 4x227 gives a HTT speed of 908MHz.

Once everything else is stable you can try increasing the HTT multiplier and try to achieve the same base CPU speed. If you can you will effectively have achieved 5x227, or 1135MHz, assuming 227MHz is the stable CPU speed.

cuz that was the only way i could get it to 2.60ghz. that's what i wanted. it wasn't stable so i backed off to 2.55 and it was stable, but running to hot @ 57c. so, i back down off the voltage to 1.65 and ran @ 2.50ghz w/prime95 for 7 hours @ 52c stable. that's what i'm prob gonna leave it @. i'll have to work @ 2.6 stable later. hrmm. i'll head over to ur forums when i get home from work to see if they have anything good for advice. thx.

idle is 36 full load is 52. bad?

3 80mm intakes and 1 120mm exhaust and 1 80mm exhaust.

I think the problem is the stock hsf. Don't expect to much MHz...
Also, 1.7v is way too much and you risk burning it.
52 is a bit high for 24/7 use...47, 48 should be safe.
