Anyone had any experience of this, i belive Rev05 is out.

I have an old Laptop IBM 390 Celeron 400 with 64mb of ram and have heard these chopped down versions are great for old things.

I only want to use the laptop as a download machine so I can turn off my beast of a PC and cut down on my electric bill.

I have been told there are XP Naked and XP Bare which do the same thing but cannot find any info on them.

So any imput would be great.

With 64MB of RAM you'd struggle to run XP, however cut-down it might be. Try 2k or even 98/Me. If you're only downloading, they'd all be capable.

You know, with my M2N32-sli Deluxe WE, I can put the system into a mode called 'nap' that turns off video & sound, drops the CPU power significantly (to 35W IIRC) and carries on doing what it was doing until I wake it fully.

You could use XP if it's just for downloading and maybe light browsing. Just disable all the services you don't need and use the classic windows theme so you can disable the theme service.

Or use win2k. :)

Ta for the info. I managed to get hold of TinyXP rev05....WOOO WEEE my laptop runs like lightning. I'm realy impressed, it runs faster now than when i had Win98SE on it. My windows dir is only 396mb

The only issue I have is i cannot get a XP driver for my Xircom 10/100 RE-100 card, as far as I can tell there aint one. But I have a USB to ethernet adapter so can get on the web.

Try driverguide (http://www.driverguide.com/). The file you want is called xe205-1.exe, but you need to register to be able to download it so I can't give you a direct link. Use the simple search and enter xe205-1 as the model, there's only one result.

Version 2.11 is the latest, not 2.05 as reported by Intel. There are plenty of links to version 2.05 but from what I've read they don't work as well with XP.

Cheers for the info Lynx but i have tried that driver and it does not work for my card

Xircom RealPort Ethernet 10/100 RE-100

Doing a seach for my specific card RE-100 on here
http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-016868.htm

Say there is no specific XP driver, there is a Driver on the XP Disc and there is no rech support under XP.

Well if there is a driver on the XP disc I cannot find it neither can XP when i shove in my FULL Xp Disc
