The contribution is by far the largest from a nongovernment source since the Global Fund was created in 2002.

indeed. and to think how much criticism he gets.
hes without a doubt the biggest private donator to charity in the world.
he donates more than many small countries.
well done billy

Well if you consider all the money he has, he should be able to spare some money for charities!
However $500m in 5 years 100m per year, well thats a lot of money! Good for him!

This flys back to Bill even higher, just an investment.

"With great power comes great responsibility" - I think the Bill and Melinda Foundation has fullfilled this very well. :)

He deserves credit for this one. He could just sit in his chair and ignore the problems the world suffer...he would be criticised but no one could arrest him for it...
But no, he understands that he is a human being and is right to help the others who suffer.

Good one :)

Very proactive on his part. Considering all the flack he has taken over the years regarding Microsoft it's very nice to see another side of him.

500mil. is little compared to what he's worth...

Not that it's not a nice donation anyway. :)

Besides I read somewhere that he donates like 1/4 of his income to charity so I dont see why this one makes the news.

i find it amusing seeing "only" and "$500 million" in the same sentence.
its estimated hes given ove 25% of his fortune to charity.
who cares if he has more, thats damn generous.
i doubt anyone here has given close to 5% of their earnings, never mind 25%.

Nice of him to do this but people still moaning that he has all that money, $500 million isn't enough. Urm it's his money he can do what ever he wants with it. Personaly he could spare 1mill for me :D

Ya I agree he is a multi billionaire, this is nothing compared to what he is making yearly. But it still is nice to see he is still donating.
