The best I can come up with is wikipedia, but it's very generalized.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_genre

you can search individual genres, with better results - I tried "garage rock":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garage_rock

which is pretty good.

other attempts:

stoner metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoner_metal)
math rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Math_rock)
post-rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_rock)
grindcore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grindcore)

hey - this is kinda fun.

I find some sites give the wrong genre out.
Not here to flame but example:

Linkin park: Old-school hip-hop, traditional classic rock when was it classic rock? lmao

Now, read the rest of the sentence. "and spooling electronic vibes were the initial factors behind the building of the alternative metal quintet, Linkin Park."

You realize that bands can and often do change after they get together right?

You could ask me... I'm trying to say I'm god of genres, but I love all kinds of music and as long as it isn't region specific music I more than likely could help.

I would call 'Classic Rock' as Rock music that is not considered Hard Rock from about 1968 to 1979. Music that is styled like this that, but was recorded or written after I would still consider Classic Rock, but NOT Linkin Park. Pop Rock, Rap Rock, Alternative Rap Rock maybe... but it's really just shit in my opinion
