What was the first record or CD you ever bought as a young music lover?

Mine was in the late 70's early 80's and it was a 7inch single called 'Hit Me With You Rhythm Stick by Ian Dury And The Blockheads'... B)

Was yours any better?

Cool topic.

My first single was Groovy Train, by the Farm (on vinyl). I still love that record now, but I doubt many people have heard of it.

The first album I bought with my own money was Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Nothing really to be embarassed about there, but my second single was Ride On Time by Black Box, which is not exactly the greatest record in the world...

The first record I bought was:

Grandmaster + Melle Mel - White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)

Bought it on 12" Vinyl, I love this tune!!

The first CD I bought was:

Common - Like Water For Chocolate

I resisted buying a CD Player for years but had to give in eventually!! <_<

Good topic!! :D

Why the hell did you buy an 8-track player? Cassette players weren't much different, price-wise. :P

And the sad thing is I bought Rumours on vinyl. AND I have two fully functioning record players.

My older sister let me order two albums from Columbia House or one of those other mail order deals. My first two picks...Michael Jackson "Thriller" and Ozzy Osbourne "Bark at the Moon". My tastes were varied even as a nine year old.

Elvis Presley - waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the early 1960's ;)
Not sure if it was "Wooden Heart" - my mum got it for me anyway - gotta love her for that :D
Anyways, it was a single and it sounded great !!

Peace

Got home from work and dug out the first 7" single I ever bought. Put it on - so many memories!!

THE JAM - THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT (German Import)

Still in quite good condition, which is surprising considering the amount of plays it has had over the years!!

My first album was Time and Tide (1982) by Split Enz. Can't stand this type of music (New Wave) now!! Actually, does new wave still exist or is it called something else? I think I'm showing my age with that question, eh?

I also bought Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC. Still love that music!! :D

Hmmm..... 1st record?

I *think* it was "Pump up the Bitter" by some geordies (forget the name) - a very silly spoof of M/A/R/R/S' Pump Up The Volume

/me cringes at the memory

Other silly stuff around the same time was "John Kettley Is A Weatherman" by A Tribe of Toffs.

Either Twisted Sister's Stay Hungry or Motley Crue's Shout At The Devil. Can't remember which one was first. Probably because I was shakin' my brains around so much to the music. I also remember jumping off of my bunk beds and landing on my knees to Jump by Van Halen....kids are smart.
