What's the best codec pack out there? Is it still the KLite codec mega pack?

Where can I get the lastest version? I've looked around but I get a million different websites that all claim to have the latest one. If anyone knows it, will you link me please?

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is imo the best because it's always up2date and has all the codecs I need + Real & Quicktime alternative

Most important codecs are: divx, xvid, ac3; all other you can install either with codec packs or you test the movie and find out.
Ace has build-in anti-virus, it detects already installed codecs to avoid problems and besides that you don't need updates for all codecs cause movies rarly use newer codecs and lots of codecs don't get updated anyway. You can choose also what codec you want to install, soo you don't need to choose all codecs. For example divx 4.12 is still used much and with help of windows you can view movies also.

K-lite codec pack has all those options. the most used codecs are updated once in a while.

You dont need divx 4.12 if you have the latest version of Divx

Why does a codecpack need an antivirus option

ace pack:
XviD 1.1.0
DivX 5.20
AC3Filter 1.01a
Old version of quicktime and real players
old dvd decoders

K-lite:
XviD 1.2
DivX 6.2.5.34
AC3Filter 1.09a
Latest Quicktime & Real codecs
latest DVD decoders

Only media player that ACE has is BSPlayer 1.02 (latest version BSplayer: v2.11.940)
and there are many more outdated codecs on ACE

Installing ACE will probably do more harm to your system that the average virus...

VLC Media Player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

if it can't play it, I use GSpot to determine what codec I need:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

I also have quicktime&real alternative installed for those specific needs.

CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) and Satsuki Decoder Pack (http://yatoshi.com/en/index.php) for general use.

Cole2k Advanced Codec Pack (http://www.cole2k.net/) for advanced users.

Not quite, although I agree that every user should know what to install and what not to...

But what should we do with noobs and lazy users? Explain every time what to install? :shifty:
