View Full Version : account disabled, mysteriously

okay, i offered one of my accounts up for a trade in this forum. Then, through PMs only, I traded it away to someone. Obviously, once that guy had control of the account, he changed the password and e-mail address. Once he d/led something, the account was disabled. I doubt it was a coincidence. Since the username was different than here, the way I see it there are only two possibilities. Either the act of switching passwords, e-mail addresses, and d/ling from a new ip address looks suspicious enough to assume that the account was traded......or they somehow got my ip address from this forum and matched it up with my account. It isn't possible to source these pages and get ip addresses is it?

There are not two, but 3-4 possibilities...maybe, just maybe, your partner was cheating or tryin to cheat...or using banned client like azureus or bitcomet...
P.S. I don't think they got you IP from here...;)

It just sucks when some accounts just misteriously get disabled. Members never get to show their dedication.....or prove that they can have good ratios. Also good sharers are not taken into account even though they did not cheat. Also it could be something to do with the fact that they blacklisted certain IP's and his was one?

Whatever the reason, IP leak from FST is not it.

no idea about his ip being part of a banned range. It's definitely not the client, i was using azureus, he uses utorrent. Don't think he was cheating it.....kind of the point of getting an already established account is so you don't have to screw around with getting a good ratio. I doubt ip leak from FST as well, but it makes you wonder how things like this happens.

They saw you offer the trade then noticed your account was suddenly under a new ip and new client and they dont allow trading invites, but you still wonder why it got disabled?

They saw you offer the trade...

No, he already stated:

Since the username was different than here...

He uses a different username on his tracker than here, so even if they saw tetrakis offer his account, that means nothing because there is no tetrakis registered at that tracker.

the ppl who run these trackers aren't idiots
u offered an account to a private tracker, on a public forum.
the site makes great efforts at remaining secret, and u openly offer an account on a public forum. what did u expect?

I really don't get it....what's wrong with offering invites/trading accounts on public forums as long as the person who joins the tracker maintains a good ratio and doesn't cheat. This is bound to happen if u give members the ability to invite. If they're so paranoid, they should just allow mods to inv ppl.

I dont think the change in ip address or client should have much to do with it since most sites allow you to seed/leech from up to 3 different ips. I would have your pal ask in their irc or something (of course avoiding mentioning that he traded for the account) The other thing that i think it would really have been disabled for would be cheating :/

uhhhh....(A) i offered it in public, yes, however my username here is different than there so there is no way to link to two. (B) I conducted the trade in PM so there is no way they could be wise to the actual trade. So, to answer your question, i expected everything to go smoothly....am i missing something?

I would bet it was the fact that he changed the pass and email at once. I've heard similar cases at known trackers...

like i said, the ppl who run these trackers are not idiots.
1 of the staff on that site are also staff on oink. u have the same username on oink as u do here. its simply a case of matching ur i.p from oink to the i.p u had on that site. it took me less than 2 mins to notice that, and i dont do that kind of thing day in/day out. alot of trackers will share i.ps or pass on details even if they dont share staff.

theres no leak from fst. u should have respected that sites rules. using a public forum for that kind of thing is hardly keeping it secret.

you don't have to be such a dick about it...i respect your theory, it makes sense and I supose I should be more carefull...but your tone could be a bit more friendly, i didn't come after you in a hostile way. However, the site speaks nothing about giving your account away to a friend of yours, or someone you trust "as being against policy"...which is what i did. They didn't disable the account when i had it, only when a new ip address tried to d/l.

To speak to your point, I didn't mention their name in a public setting, i used asterisks (not that it matters, since FST blocks it anyway). The guy I gave the account to is as trusted as those of us can be in a message board setting such as this...i don't see the problem. Did i know this guy personally?...no. Did i know this guy enough that he would be a good member?...yes. And that's all anyone can expect for this kind of thing...and you know that.

In short, if i "broke" the rules, fine...disable my account, whatever...even though i don't think i did. But they didn't, only when my very good account got a new owner. Punishing him is stupid because I gave him my account so he would use it...which i no longer was doing. go figure.

Yep it definately suck and i feel bad for you and the dude that got the account. The owners of these website should understand that if they gonna ban people for getting invites like this then they will have to ban have of the site because that is how they got them too. Then again this is all just in theory maybe something happened that none of us know about.
