It's about time we started having a "heated debate". So I thought I'd post a couple of new topics to get the ball rolling.
Who, in your opinion, is the best literary/fictional villain?? Opinions could be clouded by films and suchlike but we'll have to live with that.
My choice would be Captain Dudley Smith from the James Ellroy series of Detective/Crime books (LA Confidential, The Big Nowhere,Etc). What a bastard!! He postively resonates with evil, sleaze and degradation. He moves through LA's seedy underworld like a shark preying on anyone weak or stupid enough to get in his way. Twisted, manipulative, greedy - class character.
Impress me Bookworld!! :D
ps I realise there is a typo in the topic heading. D'oh!! :P

Damn. That's a mean, mean question.
There's Steerpike from the Gormenghast trilogy.
Hm. Now that I think about it, I don't read many books with villians.

The ultimate villain must be Prof Moriarty.
He even appears here sometimes.

I like Randall Flag/ The Walking Man from Stephen King's The Stand. For some reason whenever I hear the song Bad Company from Bad Company I think of him.

Does anyone know who he is. Without looking below, or doing a search.
Don't look (http://www.angelfire.com/wy/dev/HitchHikersGuide.html)
I did. So be honest, post your answer.

I'll be honest I didn't know who/what it was. Thought of another good villain: The Joker from the Batman comics. Insane!!

No...after some thinking, Steerpike's still my favourite villian. Iago has to come in second.

I had to be reminded by the site. But that section of the story was absolutley halarious! A twist i never expected.
But, I would choose... Apocolypse or Sinister from the X-Men series
