Hi,

Is you have a remote assistance with someone, is it possible for a hacker to see what your doing, or gain access?

Is it a direct connection from pc to pc or does it go through a central server?

Best Regards

If he has the password .... but if you use a good pasword (with eg numbers in it) it is probably not

As I understand it, the computers connect directly. Ive made use of it several times (and will again tomorrow) and the lack of lag would indicate M$ servers have nothing to do with it.
As for how secure it is... well would you trust the Windows/MS/Live Messenger connection with confidential stuff?

I'm not sure to be honest , made me think after posting here :

Of course both have to have logmein installed , and I don't like Microsoft's track record with security so maybe worth trying a third party app .?

That seems a bit odd i though the protocol they used was pretty much bog standard on nt 4.0 upwards. Do you both have the pro versions of xp i think remote assistance is the only real extra in pro over home.

The bundled M$ Remote Assistance, peat.

He's on regular XP Pro and I'm on X64, 4play.

Like I said I've used the feature to help people out quite a few times and this is the first time I've had a problem.
Mind you, yesterday's attempt was the first time I'd tried using it since going to X64. Google doesn't bring up many results so I don't know whether it's a problem with my setup or his, or whether my source is screwed. :dabs:

Another option is to check out Maxthon Access

http://www.maxthon.com/

Its the second thing.

It's free, and it looks pretty promising. I'm going to try it out (right now i just rely on aim filesharing) for uni laptop to home computer access.

Strange one there mate. As my friend and I have a similar setup, I have x64 Corp and he has regular XP Home.. We tried out Remote Assistance, just to see if it would work and it did no problem. Although it maybe worth noting it was he who initiated the Remote Assistance onto my machine, kinda spooky watching my mouse cursor move around by itself. :)
