Hi Guys

Can anyone tell me how to remove the Windows Messenger Not Signed In icon from my system tray in XP ?

I do not use the program and want to tidy up my System Tray (resources etc)

open the program, click tools > options > preferences tab > untick run this program when windows starts. Then right click icon in tray and choose exit.

If you want to remove Windows Messenger completely from Windows XP with SP2 then do the following:

Start>Run -> Cut and paste or type the following command.

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Click OK when done.

Thanks guys,

Is that code a bit risky ?

Is there a registry entry I can enter to disable it ?

You can remove it from windows by going to add/remove programs > add/remove windows components > untick Windows Messenger and then click next.

It's not risky. I've used it many times.

That disables messenger service not windows messenger. They are 2 different and unrelated programs
