Might sound like a plumb, but i've only used MP3Downloading.com and Edonkey in the past, which are really easy and self explanatory to use.

However, i stumbled accross this site by accident, and have tried to open one of the Torrent links, and i click on a file which is saves to my PC in about 2 seconds, but i can't open it.

Obviously i'm doing something really stupid - or not doing something:)

download utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com)
its a good program for downloading torrents

read slycks (http://www.slyck.com/bt.php) guide to bittorrent, or just open the torrent with utorrent and practise urself.
although reading that guide at some point will help

Thanks for the links but it seems they are chargeable? (Unless i'm doing something wrong:) )

Are there any free ones like Edonkey was?

uTorrent is free, all torrent clients are free.

Direct linkage to installer: http://download.utorrent.com/1.6/uTorrent-1.6-install.exe

Just download either uTorrent or BitComet, then open up the torrent in those clients, it'll start downloading. It's actually really easy.
