That's quite a blanket statement.

I download plenty of shows and movies that aren't in a .rar file.

This whole thread is crap.

Yes, rar files are used because of the possibility of corruption. So if you have say 50 rar files and one is corrupt then the uploader will usually up that repaired rar file separately and you simply download that one to replace the corrupted one. At one time there seemed to be quite a lot of avi files that were corrupt so the whole download was then wasted.

Its a lot more work for the uploader but is meant to benefit those downloading the file.

Personally I haven't come across any corrupt files for at least 6 months so it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

Anyone here who is an uploader have any comments on this?

I dont think i have ever gotten a corrupt file either with or without .rar so i dont really see the point in it... fair enough of your compressing an image file... but with .avi i dont see the point... it only sheds around 1mb, lol just takes longer to extract it!

The only time your gonna get a corrupt file with torrents is if the original file (The one the uploader posted) is corrupt. Its 100% impossible to get a corrupt file with torrents unless the original file was corrupt.

Most sites stick to rar format cause thats what the scene uses for increased speeds. So the uploaders dont unpack ect... they just post them as they get them to make life easeir.

Well I am not sure what all the torrent sites use but if you want to know why rar files get used as a standard in scene releases check out the lnk below.
