Now that Vista is finally on its way (?) can anyone help me with the question.

Will it work basically the same as XP, but with its fancy front end ?

By that I mean

1 Will most of the apps we all love and use run on it ?

2 Will a lot of what we know about XP apply to Vista, eg I am making notes on start up files, processes and services etc, will most of these still be in Vista ?

Kind Regards

Imo stay unless you're a masochist.

Think VistaME but worse.

Ive just installed vista rc 2 and it rocks . ALL of my stuff works , thats nero 7, newzleecher, my old hp officejet printer. Im gonna try some games in a mo too. Use trends pc cillin for the antivirus. The only peripherals that are not working is my webcam , and my old tv tuner card . Think i can live without those.
Try it yourself , itl be good to reformat your system once in a while anyway.

Aren't they going to implement DRM technology into Vista?

i think we'll know as much of Vista as we knew of XP when we upgraded from 98.

i was one of the last to upgrade to xp, did it 2 years after it was released. i was a 98-hardcore-tweaker by then :P

i think i'll install vista by the end of 2009...

Vista was a total new experience for me. Is fast it backward compatible with most of the software and hardware I use (problem with webcam also) and it just been a week. I m amazed every day and I hope it will stay like these. As for updating I will be doing it on the first day. Is been 5 years and I need a change.

To tell the truth I havnt looked much into vista which maybe wouldnt be a bad idea but I don't know if my D.A.W will work in vista and xp seems fine for now.

Exactly. Windows 3.1 is still working like a dream for me :P

No seriously though, my rule is wait at least 2 years for them to iron out the (major!) bugs, and then upgrade. ;)

Look at what happend to Nero. You wait one year and it's great (6.6) then the next it's utter crap.

Don't wait too long and let them iron out those "bugs" until they've already hatched roaches

Two years ! ?
Yes, I agree with him on this.:yup: Besides...when you go Vista, go 64-bit, and go hardcore with hardware.:01:
