what are pre Channels?

I keep hearing about these pre channels! do they have to do with bittorrent, newsgroup or what? if not how do you use them, also do you need invites?

on pre channels pre bots are just informing the people who r in the channel what releases are being released, they also support some commands like !search group, release, last 10

and so on.
