i went to speedguide.net and did the tcp/ip analyzer and the top two lines of the results were

MTU = 552 MTU value is too small ! consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput

MSS = 512 MSS is not optimized for broadband consider increasing your MTU value.

it sed quite alot of other stuff but i was just wondering if this is anything important and how do i change the settings it talks about. i have 1mb broadband and im runnin windows xp.

thanx

there are several tweaking programs available for windows xp such as tweaking toolbox xp, tweak-xp pro and similar progs. search for one of those and use their internet tweak options to change the settings you mentioned ;)

there is documentation found by search google.com, but if you want do this.

on the adapter setting, pull down the menu an select your network card.

Change the TCP receive Window to 131070
Windows scaling to Yes
Time stamping to Yes
Selective Acks Default
Dial up (RAS) MTU to 1500
Path MTU Discovery to Yes
Black Hole Detection to Default
Max Duplicate Acks = <blank>

net to the network card MTU 1500

your maximum theoretical download speed is 128kB/sec. (1024/8)
in reality you should get about 80-90% efficiency, so your download speeds of 110-120kB/sec are about the most you can expect
