Better Audio In Dvd Ripping

I have downloaded some movies from K++ in which the audio quality is very very good. But when I rip the DVD (using Gknot), no matter how good I specify the quality to be, its never as good as those movies. I usually encode it with Divx 5 and mp3 at 224 kbps. How do you guys do it ?

make sure you are using the correct audio stream, ie ac3 2 channel

AC3 is a better audio codec than MPEG-1, Layer 3, but it takes some practice to encode. AC3 streams from DVDs have a bitrate between 192 and 448kbit/s. Also check your audio settings if it's set to constant, variable, or average. A constant bitrate will not have the jolt when you hear explosions, etc.
