im against blocking users, its against the p2p ideia, but i think we should make a M.F.L. ( Mother Fucker List) and list all the mother fuckers who dont rename/delete their fake files and also name all users who are the source of them, maybe that way we can contain fakes (wich is virtually impossible!) but at least we would piss them off...

<_<

dunno if its a bad idea...

let the discussion begin

If we tried, it wouldn't work effectively. There will be problems and mistakes, which is just too much to do just to piss off a small group of fake sharers.

Unworkable and impractical.Usernames in kazaa are not unique.

learn to spot the fakes and use avi preview to test the ones you do start
its not hard really if you learn how to spot fakes. this is totally not an
issue to me. there a number of things you can do to spot fakes.

whats the point?? say we name a user called Motherfuckerlist@kazaa

he says the list then changes his user name stright away simple ;)

and what about defaultuser??? there probaly 5 million people who use that we name 1 of them and that means 5 million people suffer

This is so true. I can't explain how valuable Avi Preview is, though I wonder why their are still people complaining about fake movies on the boards. Are people that desperate for posts?

Since when are ips unique?

defaultuser@kazaa with ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has matrix reloaded i have 4/5 main software/movies sharers ips wich are on fixed ip (probably t1) and they only have fakes, my fake list droped 95% when i download something just by ignoring the threads were they are present, if one of the sharer' s is in my MFL i dont downlad i look for a thread where any of those MF are not and do it... its been working for me!

if ya dont wanna help out its okay, but why dont do you critisize in a constructive way if not just dont post it seems like you have a urge to post, you are obessed with it!

Uh, yeah, well, you can't blacklist users because they share a fake file. You'll end up blacklisting nearly every user. Kazaa has nearly reached its limitations. In fact, the decentralize server system is probably the only thing keeping it going. In my opinion, there are far better filesharing formats, but soon fakes will be a problem on every network. There is little we can do regarding fake files, you just have to live with them.

Constructive enough for you?

"you can't blacklist users because they share a fake file"

not 1 fake file, but some have ALL fakes files!

browse user files once, see how many files there are, 345 same sized files of different movies???

matrix reloaded size 745.123kb
lord of the... size 745.123kb
Jibbler the postman size 745.123kb

and so on...

mmmmmmh, id guess they were all fakes.
and ive only found 4 users like this. not 2/3 million and i repeat when they are on a thread i dont download from them.

90% of all fakes can be discovered before downloading just by hovering over the file name in the search window and reading the description in the box that pops up. Usually the file name does not match the listed name (i.e. the search and file may be the Matrix Reloaded but the file name in the pop-up box may say Oceans 11). Dead give away "Fake".

The description in the pop-up box usually also does not match. That file that everybody downloads that thinking it is the real but is "Porn" usually has the word "Marta" and sometimes "Karlson" in the description at the bottom of the box. Besides that file is always 727,529 Kb without exception.

Finally click on the (+) sign and expand the listing. Usually there is one good person who has downloaded the file but corrects the name and leaves it so that others don't make that mistake.

Finally as stated above use the AVI preview as soon as possible to verify the file.

Whining about the fakes isn't going to make the problem go away, in fact I seriously doubt that problem can be eliminated. But you the user can minimize the damage just by using a little precaution before downloading. Also use the "Verifieds"

Another 900 posts, and maybe I'll think this is funny. I'm not a post whore, or a spammer, nor do I have the desire to prove that to you.

Simply put, usernames on Kazaa aren't unique. This is fact, and there is no getting around it. This is a design flaw in the Kazaa program. So to deal with the problem of fakes files, you don't have alot of choices. AviPreview was designed for precisely this reason.

I'm sure the stores aren't selling fake copies. Maybe you'd rather choose that path instead?

Cruel Jibbler :P , but I agree, I think many people on here need to go to KaZaA Lite School before they start arguments about age old questions like blacklisting usernames etc...

How about blacklisting bad hashes and correcting good (but mis named) files during search based on an online listing of verified hashes in a database? Send the database a hash during search.. It returns 1 plus the correct file name and title, artist, etc in a semicolon delimited text format for verified file, 0 if its a bad file deletes it, and 2 says it isn't in the database and it does nothing. Or you could send hex codes (same effect). Do this only when the user clicks a button to verify searches. Wouldn't be much harder to implement than the download accelerator except you would be changing listbox items instead of searching them. And the button in the search tab wouldn't be any harder to put in than the K++ auto search more. The database stuff isn't too hard either. It would work much like the database side of audiogalaxy used to and could be easily and quickly done in php with a free sql server database.

as i said before this is a non issue for me.
i like fakes cause it keeps all the kazaa n00bs from
finding sources on the REAL file while im downloading it!

(kabal) nice suggestion, would be reliable specially if it worked around registered users... (fake poster/ban)
kindalike a forum (maybe postnuke based or something like that) would be a good way... id put up with server/mysql.
