Well I'm going to be controversial here and say Morpheus not dying in the Matrix. Some of may not even think that's a twist but I thought it was rather good. I mean when he got captured, how many of you thought he was going to survive?

The first time I saw the Matrix, I was clueless. It wasn't until the very end did things finally fall into place. Personally, I think the twist in the end of Usual Suspects was great. Just when I thought I'd figured it out, well, they got me.

Jibby, I think if we were gay, we would have to get married, hahaha... dont ever quote me on that...

I swear to god... I read the title of the thread, and the first thing that came to mind, Usual Suspects! Hahaha, we have way to much in common...

Any how, That move was awesome! Brian Singer, now of xmen fame, put together one hell of a movie, and no one, no one I have ever talked to guessed where that ending was going, a true stunner if there ever was one...

and as far single one line twists, ya i was young, but, "luke I am your father"... holy shit! I remember thinking, for the next 3 years, is he really? Is he? wowowowowow... lol...

Some movie where this girl says shes gettin raped by a teacher, but it end up as a con to get her moms money. It turns out a cop is on on it, the teacher was in on it, lots of peeps. Then everybody gets killed but the teacher and he goes off in a sail boat. So many twists I was dizzyfied. I don't remember what it was called tho.

that movie was called wild things, with denise richards and neve campbell.. nice one... the 13th floor had a nice twist to it at the end.. they had built a computer simulated world they could go into.. at the end, you find out they are actually inside their own simulated world.. and they are the first world to actually create a world within a simulated world

I liked the 6th sense.
I had no idea that he was dead.
Hope I didn't spoil the movie for anyone :)

2 other ones with kickass twists. I don't remember the names of these either. :D

Ok there was one about this family in a haunted house. It turns out they were the ones hauntin it but they didn't know it till the end of the movie. The mom killed the kids then killed herself and the father dies at war and shows up later.

Then there was another one about a writer who writes this book and he ends up in this town that is from one of his books. Wierd shit happens in the town all the way through the movie. Turns out the town is a gateway to hell and his book is the key that opens the gateway.

The first one is "The Others" starring Nicole Kidman.
The second one seems to sound like the "Ninth Gate" or something with Johnny Depth in it. NOt sure though.

Yes the sixth sense ending was a definite twist too!! Damned, I can't think of any myself. <_<

The twist at the end of Session 9 made me stop breathing for a minute or two. When I started breathing again, all I could do was mutter wtf, wtf, wtf!?!?!?

Also, the beginning of Meet Joe Black - I had to rewind it like 3 times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

All horror movies when you think he is dead.... he ain't dead....

or isn't that a twist....

No really heared some good ones already, No way out, was good, sixth sense was great

but like to add the swordfighting scene in the Princess bride... where in the middle of a tremendous fight one of the 2 sais "well it took long enough now, i wanna tell you a secret.... i'm righthanded" change sword in the other hand and starts to fight even faster better and.... the reply of the other one.... Hilarious...

Great movie... btw

I'd have to agree with schmiggy and thousands of other people and say 'usual suspects', other movies ive sussed (sixth sense for example) but not with that baby, right up until the last few frames you're still not 100% , probably the best thriller and twist ever commited to celluloid (wow!)

Donnie Darko - one of my all-time favourite movies

**SPOILER**

It turns out that the airplane engine that should have crushed Donnie at the start was from a plane that his mother in that was needed to go back in time to save the world and ultimately kill Donnie... phew

that film rules :D

The Usual Suspects and the Sixth Sense are both up there among the best TWISTS ever filmed.

Now on the other hand just plain twisty movies, where there are multiple strings all intertwining are another of my favorites, like 2 DAYS IN THE VALLEY or even SLIDING DOORS. Reservoir Dogs was another that was a bit twisty and fun to watch.

But I would have to say the Sixth Sense was the most shocking to me, I had "sort of" figured out The Usual Suspects, just was never positive right up until he starts walking without the limp, but The Sixth Sense just caught me totally off guard.

The Deep Blue Sea:
Samuel L. Jackson getting killed only halfway in the movie and during his 'finest hour'.

Only good thing in the movie though. Good twist, Bad movie.

And I have to agree with everyone about the Usual Suspects. That movie rocks!

Yeah, Fight Club was the best shocker, however not as enjoyable as The Usual Suspects. Fight Club somewhat left a bad taste in my mouth, but a shocker non the less, overall a great movie, just almost too much of a shocker for me.

Agreed Sharedaddy. Though fight club did have a good twist, its execution wasnt nearly as flawless as the Usual Suspects. And I would have to say 6th sense is up there as well... but that seems more of a one trick pony, I can still watch usual suspects over and over, and just be like, wow, look at this, or that, while piecing it together.

How about 'Just Cause', where Connery uses new evidence and testimonies to get a man wrongly imprisoned on death row free. After seeing the guy on death row being beaten up and seeming so innocent, it feels good when he is released and you are ready for the end of the film...Only later Connery realises just what he has done and finds out the guy is a brutal murderer and goes after him. :o

The plot twists in Frailty were something else, however overall the film was a bit predictable and failed to acheive a certain sense of excitement or fear, that the script really tried to shoot for.

Damn... I saw the usual suspects and was very impressed with the twist, but I saw Sixth Sense after I was told about the twist and I saw the entire film in a different light... I would have liked to have seen it before I knew about the twist after reading the comments in here!

I have to agree with the consensus here, Usual Suspects was tops. Honorable mention to Fight Club, Sixth Sense, and No Way Out.

I can't remember why but I think The Last Seduction should be on the list. Ninth Gate was ok, but it's not what Red Rival was thinking...sounds kinda close though.

mind block...there was a recent flic revisiting the Jack the Ripper story. Can't think of the name of it but it took the premise that the murders were a political cover-up for the crown prince's indescretions with ladies of the evening.

NO question about it, Usual Suspects.

It was extremely well thought out and executed.

I would like to add Les Miserables with Liam Neeson.

I had never read the book or heard anything about it so the ending was a complete shock.

I know it prolly wasn't a twist, but it was completely unexpected when the inspector did what he did.

man i would have never thought of that movie but you are soo right.
i remember this flick and the end tripped me out. anyone who likes twists
should look for shattered.

sixth sense was huge. everyone in the theater was gasping.
ive never seen an entire theater so fooled.

usual suspects was great as well.

as far as the ceator of this thread thinking morpheus surviving in the
matrix? WTF, maybe he was kidding. there was absolutely no "twist" to
morpheus surviving. not in the true sense of misdirection from the director/writer,
which is what every truly great "twist" is based upon. thereby
qualifying twists as an illusion in film.
