Few questions which might help pin it down:

1) Are you running xp or windows 2000 or windows 98?
2) when did you first notice it
3) had you installed anything new (hardware or software) or run windows update shortly before you first noticed it
4) Does it happen everytime you open "my documents" or is it sporadic
5) Can you access my documents in other ways, e.g. if you open up microsoft word and go File -> Open can you browse into the my documents folder without any problem?

I had a similar problem accessing files in my network places. The solution, rather, the workaround, was to go to my computer > choose tools > folders options > tick use windows classic folders.

This is for win XP.

im using windowsXp, i first noticed it today, erm the only thing that i put on was a few south park vids and then it started acting up.
It happens everytime i open it. i can access it via other wise like you said but when i go striaght into my documents.

will try that backlash but will i always have to work with normal window classic folders?

backlash i tired the folder settings it didnt change anything. the only thing that has changed on my documents that might have caused it was me putting some more south park vids on it. But the thing is i took them off my pc and then re opened my documents that still didnt work. its getting very frustrating thanks for ya help.

It sounds like there's something wrong with the videos. Is it set to thumbnails? Maybe you need a new codec for them. Try getting the latest version of k-lite codec pack. http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm

I use the 2.72 full version. That should fix it.

no the error you get BEFORE that part comes up.

Check event viewer for the specifics to what module is crashing.

control panel > administrative tools > event viewer > check application section and system section

from that it looks like msn messenger is the cause! or am i jumping to conclusions?

You're looking for ones that are timestamped at the time you get the error. You want to look at the ones that say error (red circle with white x) or warning (yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it)

I think it's a problem with your codecs. Uninstall the codec pack I recommended and reinstall. Do you have any other codec packages installed?

You could also try deleting the thumbs.db in case it's corrupted. Enable hidden files and folders and view that folder through another means like mentioned earlier.
