good quality lives and bootlegs are cool, when you get to hear the artists really performing, if you haven't been able to see them. Studio recordings are, in a sense, false; too much post production

BTW: congrats FC, you must be proud

Some live albums are good, but i have to be there [at the gig] to fully apreciate it i guess.......

Anyone who is a true music connoisseur appreciates and enjoys Studio Albums, Live Albums and Bootlegs.

The Studio Albums are great to get to know the style of an artist or group, but without hearing their Live Albums or some of their Bootleg material, you will never get to know the personality of them.

I have many different Live Albums and Bootlegs from many different artists and groups, but the group I have the most Live and Bootleg material of is The Beatles. I have their original Studio Albums (a total of 20) and in addition to those albums, I have roughly another 120 albums of their Live Performances and Bootleg material........needless to say, I voted for "Live Albums & Bootlegs".

There is usually at least some music other than the Studio Albums available for most artists or groups, it's just a matter of finding it.

Tchau!

live albums are great but:

what's the point of releasing a live album when the band only performs popular songs?
(which you already have on the studio albums)<_<

i like live lps where, like skinny puppy and other experimental artists, play completely new stuff, so it's almost like a new album. :)

well i would say that i do like live albums especially Depeche Mode´s 101 live album
and many of the great live bootlegs there with them
(btw they are one of the most bootlegged bands from the 80´s)

Love live albums....usually get better versions of songs on live albums, and if you play in a covers band they`re better to learn from.

cheers.

1 stupid question what are bootlegs :"> :-"

WolverineDK
05-19-2003, 01:44 PM
bootlegs are recordings that are not official and some times the sound quality is not good but sometimes the recordings are soundboard recordings and many of them are great in quality
and also bootlegs can be remixes that is not official like bootleg remixes
but live bootlegs can also be you go to a concert and record the show with a recorder of some sort
and then you made a bootleg.
btw there are also many great sound quality bootlegs made from hand recordings and then there is video bootlegs
and then there is video bootlegs etc.

have i missed something ??? :P ;)

Voted NO.
Most live albums are ripoffs adding nothing new but an extra 10 minutes of
applause and cheers  .
Of course there are exceptions but right now I can't think of any. :)

No because I've already heard the artist with perfect quality in the studio so why would I want to hear the same damn songs with lower quality and alot of distortion and the vocalist alot of time sounds like crap?

Most live recordings sound like crap but some are good though. B)

Love live and bootlegs....

I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and think they are better live than in the studio. They are always a reminder of seeing them live.

i find official live albums a bit washed up. the blink 182 one for example, contains parts of several shows, not just one. so while they sound like they have tons of funny jokes and are quick at throwing out a laugh, they just have edited material added in.

one of my favorite bands, Streetlight Manifesto, has only played 3 shows so far (they are a new group), and two of them are available in full, and good quality, on the web. they catch the feeling of the show really well.

of course, being at the concert itself cannot be compared to recordings.

I love live albums and bootlegs.

My favorites:

Portishead: PNYC
Peter Gabriel - Plays Live
Depeche Mode 101
Smashing Pumpkins - I can't remember what show it was but it was in Atlanta.
