i have a dell e1505. i want to get 5.1 surround. can i hook up 5.1 to 1 regular headphone jack? or do i need a sound card? the e1505 doesn't take regular laptop card things, so i can't get the creative laptop sound card.

No you won't get 5.1 from 1 jack you'll just get stereo sound (ie 2 speakers).
You'll need an external sound card unless they have pcmcia ones, which I doubt.

yea, i looked it up. guess i'll have to get external. no, my e1505 is retarded and doesn't have a pcmcia slot. great job dell!

i have a question bout general surround. i know that audio encoded in ac3 will play in all speakers. wat if the audio is mp3? like for example i'm playing an avi file with mp3 audio. mp3 is only 2 channel right? so if i play a movie with 5.1 speakers, would the sound only come out of 2 speakers?

nah sound will come out of all of them, just not surround sound like, it will come out equally....

u can try VLC, it has a "force surround" option. It works okay form what i can tell. it should sound pretty good if you have 5.1, my old system isn't though.
