I bought a Sound Blaster Audigy SE, installed it fine, handles songs and video perfectly but when I try to play CSS or DODS it lags quite a fair bit? The actual sound quality in game is perfect its just the lag?

Tried the driver that came with it and the latest one, disabled the onboard sound too.

My Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro

I've played CnC Generals, Dark Messiah and Half Life 2 offline and they worked perfectly but when I had a go at Half Life 2 Death match I got the same problem as CSS and DODS so it seems to be a problem with the source engine and my new sound card.

I tried everything on high, medium and low and get the same results each time, its not that sort of gamer lag with a drop in fps that you'd normally see, its more of a stutter. I've ran Steam diagnostics and everything came back fine and I've also turned hardware acceleration down knotch by knotch in dxdiag and still get the same results.

Also EAX isn't enabled

So you've tried lowering the "Sound Quality" option in css?

I've played it with onboard sound for months and had no problems, also I've tried defragging the cache files for CSS as Steam/Valve recommends and still no change

maybe find an older driver package tucked away in an archive somewhere?

Are you running the software that came with the card in the background? It might have enabled a bunch of features that will lag your system like crazy.

Did the same thing for me when I installed a 24bit Live! on my old computer..Try disabling the programs from msconfig. If thats the case anyways...

it was CTxfiREG.exe and/or ctsysvol.exe that were being gay. played a few rounds on a couple of different servers and all seems to be well :hooray:

Programs installed by the SB software..that run in your background. There not needed and cause alot of un needed lag

i didn't even think of that for when i installed my drivers for my sound card that's all i did... the drivers. didn't install any software and after the installation of the drivers i quickly rebooted and then opened up ccleaner to disable the newly active appz that start up on boot.
