i have a question about sound on dvd rips. does the 5.1 channel surround sound stay intact once i were to burn the movie to cd?

assuming most dvd's already have digital surround sound on the disc.

This depends on how you encode it. Burn it as SVCD and you can keep the surround sound. Other formats may work as well depending on how the file is ripped/encoded. B)

can someone answer me this?
i know in order for movies to be played in dvds they have to be burned as mpeg and most have to be encoded to mpeg first. but the problem is that i have a small hd and can only dl one movie at a time and the problem is that i dont have enough space after i dl the movie for coverting. so this is my question does anyone rip movies already converted to mpeg? or am i sol and prolly need a bigger hd?

I've found that the more room you have the more room you need. :P
