Yay me! I got a letter this morning telling me that I have an interview for a place in an Administration Modern Apprenticeship at Glasgow Uni (yeehaw!)

There's only 2 wee problems...

1) it's on the morning of the 21st - a very special date in all Glasgwegiens' calenders! I may be too nervous about the game to do well in the interview! It's also the day that all of my friends (Except 1 - and she's escorting me to Glasgow Uni) sit their Higher/Adv Higher Maths...I'll be worried about them!

2) I cut my right humb on a very evil can of dog food...it's making my typing very slow, but as well as a solo interview and a group interview, i have a word processing test to do...

But apart from those weeny problems, i think I've got a pretty good shot!

:D

Aww thanks FC!

:flowers:

You're a wee sweety pie!

Another good thing I just found out - I get to go see a flat in the City Centre with My brother and his Girlfiend (we're all moving out together) and if we like it, we'll probably be moving out at the start of July! :w00t:

But shhhhhhh - don't tell my mum and dad...they won't get told until it's all finalised!

I hope you land the job, WeeMouse. ;) I once had an interviewer ask me to tell him a joke. I almost choked since most of the jokes I knew were either dirty or crude so alway keep a good, politically correct joke on hand.

Thanx man! Heehee i got a few crap jokes...the 2nd one's probably the best to say tho...

One day in the future, George Bush has a heart attack and dies. He
immediately goes to ... hell, where the devil is waiting for him.

"I don't know what to do," says the devil. "You are on my list, but I
have no room for you. You definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you
what I'm going to do. I've got some folks here who weren't quite as bad
as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll
even let YOU decide who leaves."

Bush thought that sounded pretty good, so the devil opened the first
room.

In it was Ronald Reagan and a large pool of water. He kept diving in and
surfacing empty handed. Over and over and over. Such was his fate in
hell.

"No," George said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer and I don't
think I could do that all day long."

The devil led him to the next room. In it was Richard Nixon with a
sledge hammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing that
hammer, time after time after time.

"No, I've got this problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant
agony if all I could do was break rocks all day," commented George.

The devil opened a third door. In it, Bush saw Bill Clinton, lying on
the floor with his arms staked over his head, and his legs staked in a
spread eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she
does best.

Bush took this in disbelief and finally said, "Yeah, I can handle this."

The devil smiled and said "OK, Monica, you're free to go."

Tony Blair is visiting an Edinburgh hospital. He enters a ward full of
patients with no obvious sign of injury or illness, and greets the
patient in the first bed.

The patient replies, "Fair fa' your honest sonsie face, Great chieftain
o' the puddin' race, Aboon them a' you take your place, Painch, tripe or
thairm, As lang's my airm."

Confused, Blair grins and moves on to the next patient. The second
patient responds: "Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that
want it, But we hae meat and we can eat, So let the Lord be thankit."

Even more confused, and his grin now rictus-like, the PM moves on to the
next patient, who immediately begins to chant: ¨"Wee sleekit, cowerin',
timorous beastie, Thou needna' start awa' sae hastie, Wi' bickering
brattle."

Now seriously troubled, Blair turns to the accompanying doctor and asks,
"What kind of facility is this? A mental ward?" "No," replies the
doctor. "This is the serious Burns unit."

ooops sorry i forgot some of you might not get it!

All of the patients are reciting Rabbie Burns, the scottish poet's work...my deputy headmaster actually told me this as I was trying to set up a coffee morning for most of the headteachers in Glasgow and I had to duck behind a table cos i was laughing/groaning so much at that joke!

One day a little girl came home from school, and said to her mother, "Mommy, today in school I was punished for something that I didn't do."

The mother exclaimed, "But that's terrible! I'm going to have a talk with your teacher about this! By the way, what was it that you didn't do?"

The little girl replied, "My homework.

If you're wearing a white shirt - don't eat chocolate ice-cream before you go to the interview... :">

My joke:

One hot sunny day a hippo strolled into a cafe and ordered a large orange juice with ice. The waiter was amazed to see a hippo and hear it talk, but served him anyway.

When the drink arrived the hippo handed the waiter a £5 note. The waiter, thinking hippos knew nothing about money gave him £1 change.

The hippo sat silently drinking his juice when he noticed the waiter staring at him.

"I'm sorry but we don't get alot of hippos in here, you know"

"At £4 a glass of orange juice i'm not surprised" replied the hippo

I had my share of job interviews lately, so I know how it feels: Good luck! Et merde ( comme on dit chez nous )! :D

Another G.W Bush joke: George Bush Jr dies and goes to Heaven. At the gates sits St Peter...
St Peter: Who are you, mortal?
Bush: I'm George Walker Bush, former president of the United States!
St Peter: I'll need proof... You cannot even imagine the number of persons that try to impersonate Einstein or Picasso to enter...
Bush: Who ?
St Peter: OK, come on in...

Good luck with the flat. It can be hard work juggling all the financial "balls" but at the end of the day having your own place is great. I moved out when I was 17 and although there were a few rough times over the years, it's been cool. Also, hope the job interview goes well. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :D

hi guys! just back! the interview went really well - it was actually quite fun! my interviewer was laughing her head off cos she asked me why I wanted to work at Glasgow Uni and i replied (thoughtfully) "well...it looks like Hogwarts castle. I could tell everyone that i worked in Hogwarts..."

I know I'm strange! i think me + my friend Steven stand a really good chance of getting in cos everyone else there were neds!

:)
Thanks for the support guys! I'll tell you if i get a 2nd interview.

But seriously: that could have done the trick; they like people that don't take themselves too serious in job interviews and can laugh with themselves. ;)

Another good thing I just found out - I get to go see a flat in the City Centre with My brother and his Girlfiend (we're all moving out together) and if we like it, we'll probably be moving out at the start of July!

Mate, if i were you i'd move up the westend, somewhere near Byres Road. I've lived up here for years and love it. I'm sure you know, it's Hillhead- the studenty part. There's a really nice atmosphere up here and...... fewer neds. The city centre's great, but not to live in- although merchant city is ok....

If you wait another month before getting a place, a lot of the students will have moved out of their flats. You'll then be able to get somewhere no bother. Don't go through a letting agent, they're very expensive; take a walk down Byres Road and look in the window of the newsagent halfway down the hill on the left. There you'll find loads of flats advertised.

Believe me (although i'm a complete stranger ;) ) the west IS best.

WeeMouse
05-22-2003, 10:09 AM
I beleive you! :)

We're looking to move out in July/August...that flat doesn't become available till then! We would love to live in Hillhead but there's a teeny weeny wee problem - MONEY!

It's cheaper to get a nice flat in the leafy west end than to live in the city centre, look at the amount of students!! I lived here as a student, in a flat which, although certainly wasn't luxury accomodation, once we cleaned, painted and moved our stuff in was the coolest place. Aaaah memories........ Your so lucky, it's very exciting moving into your first place.
Anyway, before you sign for this city centre place, shop around. Don't forget that although some of the old tenements may appear shabby inside, they can have great potential. Our landlord couldn't believe how nice we did our place up. As long as it's in good condition, that is windows, walls, kitchen and bathroom.
Never go for the first place you see, look at as many flats as you can; that's how you get the nicest place. Looking at flats can be a real pain. Stick at it though, that's how you get the best place. As i said, loads of students will be moving out soon- you'll have rich pickings.
The money issue. Well if you are all working then you'll be fine. Obviously you'll need to get a two months rent in advance, one for a deposit. After that just make sure you keep on top of things. If you get paid weekly put money aside, if monthly then pay all the bills before anything else.

If this is of any use then i could ramble on for ages.

WeeMouse
05-22-2003, 01:40 PM
coo - good advice!

Since I won't be working till August (if I get the Glasgow Uni job) My bro and his Girlfriend will have to pay the rent and bills for the first month...so they're really calling the shots on which flat they like best. In late June, the flat-hunting will get pretty damn serious but we have to keep it from our parents just now...We check www.s1homes.com every single day to see what's available in July and i will be sure to take a walk up Byres Road.

It's all fun fun fun!!!
