I'll have to say The Exorcist, the first Amityville, the first Poltergeist, & The Haunting of Hill House.

Eeek, I can't believe I left out the Shining. That movie was something else. They even say the Stanley Hotel, on which its based is actually haunted. Did anyone see the Ghost Hunters episode where they checked it out. Some pretty strange goings on at that place!

The movie that scared me the most was the original Ring. Something about it just rubbed me the wrong way, and it creeped the hell out of me for days.

The original Ring was a definitely good movie. Very original and well paced. However its sequel, not so much. It was such a feeble excuse for a followup and was very clearly yet another money grab by the studios. I wonder if the original writers/producers were even involved in this one.

Ive seen some great horror movies that have scared the shite out of me when ive been flicking through channels, i really should make a note of the decent movies i come across :(

but some movies that did give me the creeps were the new amityville, the haunted and House.

there looks like theres some great horror movies coming to the cinema in the new year though, looking forward to them.

New movies - cool. :D Which ones are coming out? Some of the recent movies have been a bit lackluster though, I hope these are good. The Haunted was an awesome movie. Never got a chance to see the New Amityville. How's it compare to the original?

I never saw that one. Sounds like a great movie though - When did it come out and who starred in it?

A couple of other movies that were pretty good that I forgot to mention were the first Blair Witch & Mothman.

The only movie that ever successfully scared the fucking crap out of me was The Ring.

As someone said above, it just rubbed off on me the wrong way, I couldn't sleep for 3 days properly. Something to do w/ the cinematography or something.

I have seen movies (before watching the ring) such as the exorcist, the shining, and all that good stuff, none of it really scared me that much, they had thrill moments but nothign that would make me scared for more than a few hours.

Oh and to whoever said The Grudge was scary, man I truly feel sorry for you.

The Curse of the Demon, which was released in 1958 has a really spooky vibe to it. The atmosphere in this movie is second to none, and it was a very enjoyable movie to watch. The only downside was a cheesy looking monster that makes an appearance and was completely inconsistent with the style of the rest of the movie. If they could edit out this scene, I couldn't try to find anything negative to say about this movie.

The Grudge is the only movie that's freaked me out since I was a kid. I'm a horror flick buff too. I saw this at the theater with my sister and thought the entire way through it was stupid, parts of it ripping off other movies. The thing looked like the girl in The Ring and the black it formed from on the ceiling reminded me of Darkness Falls. I left disappointed and making fun of it. .... yet later at my house I was completely freaking out. That thing had me up for a few days. I can't even explain it.

the scariest movie for me is a tv-movie called "the haunted" (1991)

not many people know about it. its like ammytiville except when the family moves away from the haunted house, the ghosts follow them to their new house lol.

The Thing, the John Carpenter version. You know the part where the head rolls off the table, grows eight legs and wanders out of the room staring at the ceiling? Man, that thing still gives me the willies, I still have to fast forward that part and its been almost 20 years since the first time I saw it.

well.. i think that the saw movies are dreadfully scary. Director was trying to make the films too realistic and he made it. He wanted to show the desperation and the horror the lunacy the suffering that a man is driven to, when he wakes up and realises that is traped in such ways that in order to get free, he has to hurt himself. By this way (hurting himself) he is called to appreciate the meaning of life or other values like the true forgiveness (saw 3). For me the actors were acting too realistic. They carried their anxiety to the viewer with big success. To this, big role played the music and the fast changing of scenes through multiple cameras that carried out the burst of the moment. All these in conjuction with blood, extreme body pain and of course the idea that all these might happened to you in order to appreciate your life or some values it is not only very scary but a gruesome story too. I dont know if i am right but for me all of these made me, choose saw films as The Scariest Movie(s) I Have Ever Seen...
