is there a programme that can fade mp3?

Sure!!

I use Soundforge! You can select Fade in or Fade out.. works like a charm!
Select from where he should begin fading and go!

Where i got it from.. Kazaa!

Just type Soundforge in the Search and try to find the latest version + Crack!
I never found a crack that worked longer than 10 saves...
but if i uninstall and reinstall it after that it workes another 10 saves!

The best program around!

can you fade the mp3 directly (lossless) with soundforge or do you need to decode/encode?

There's a mp3 editor wich claims to edit (also fading) mp3s lossless (haven't tried it though).
It's called Mp3DirectCut (http://www.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/~pesch/#mp3dc).

just downloaded soundforge looks a great programme.

I agree, SoundForge is very good.
But for mp3 fading you might wanna use a lossless mp3 editing tool.
I don't think SoundForge can do it lossless but i might be wrong...

Riesdepies, what do you mean by lossless?

I mean that you won't have any quality loss while editing (fading) the mp3 file.
The fading will be done directly on the mp3 file, without decompressing it first.
This way the music data of the file will stay the same, only the volume data will be changed.
Most audio editors can't do this. They need to decompress (decode) the mp3 first, then fade it, and then compress (encode) it again.
If you do it that way, you will loose quality.

Oh! :o ...see what you mean now.

Having said that i have just added a few tracks to soundforge and altered them. And i must say you need a very keen ear to notice any difference

Yes that's true.
It's more that I personally don't like the idea that the file gets decoded/encoded while there is no need for it.
I just tried Mp3DirectCut and a seems a good program to me. You can also record straight to mp3 with it.
