Reputation Basics

Points are ONLY given by members with invite access.
Reputation points given are ONLY positive points.
You can ONLY give each member ONE point.
You can ONLY give 5 points each day.

Giving A Point To A Member

Points can be given to those who give free invites.
Points can be given to those you make trades with.
DO NOT demand rep points when giving free invites.
To give a point click the icon http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/1236/giverep.png to the left of a post.



Fill in comments if you want and click "Add BT Rep".

To View Members Reputation

There will be a BT Rep from +1 to +100 below member names.
For every +5 points a http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/reputation/reputation_pos.gif will show below the BT Rep.
After 25 points rep will increase in sets 5 points.
(members without rep will not show anything.)

Great idea, once some of the things get ironed out. As for giving bad or minus rep points mods and admins should be the ones to have this privilage. If a user wants to give some bad points then they will have to fill out a report, and have the higher ups do it.

I think negative points is not a good idea and is not needed, we do have an scammer thread to which users should monitor and if an known scammer/cheat or a banned user is trying to trade or get back into a site, users here are really good and alert other members to that persons bad ways.

I think the scale should be raised up to +25 perhaps even more like 50 as max amount, 10 is a bit low.

Well thats really at the discretion of the member thats giving the point.
Think most would say should be above like a 2.5 site and not common.

Points will be setup to go up to 25 points which will be setup later on.

Its mentioned when getting a tracker for free to give rep if its a valued tracker. If members give rep for common trackers its thier choice and perhaps a flawed choice on their part though not something we can control.

Cheaters are not to be posted publically since trackers might make mistakes on this. This more so with large trackers. Its mentioned in the pins to report cheaters in the report section. There only the thread starter and Staff can read the threads. At that point we check into it as much as possible. If its clear the member is a cheat then their access to the invites section is removed since they are a risk in trades...

I really don't know how to make it more plain than RealitY has explained in the initial post to this thread.
Except that the icon he tells you to click may not be the one you see due to differences in the board skins... I see some very badly rendered scales. It's the second icon from the left under the user's details next to any post they make. Hover your mouse pointer over the image and a tooltip pops up saying Add a Trading Rep point for <username>. Well it does in the vBulletin 3 White skin, anyway.

No, the points awarded in the old thread stay there and you start again from scratch.

Can one or two points a month be automatically removed from the total so that invite-section-n00bs don't start PMing people that haven't traded for months?
I mean after a while (perhaps months, even a year?) previously good trading members may not spend any time in the invite section or even use BT (there's quite a few that have gone over to usenet) so any trading reputation they have in this section may well be over-inflated.

If it's possible, a previous maximum total could be displayed: <current>/<max>
i.e. if user smellysox has traded well and earned a rep of 22 after a couple of months, he may move on to usenet and two months later his current rep would be 20, This could appear below his name: Trading Rep +20/+22.
A bit like the Billboard chart listings where the highest position is also shown with the current position.
I think this would help keep the system more 'current' after it's been in use for a while.

Just ignore it. The Lounge posters don't ever post in this armpit of a board section as we have all the invites/tracker memberships we'll ever need (or we started using newsgroups...). Even so, I've had more invites off my "buddies" in the Lounge, and for free no less, than I'd ever hope to get in this section of the board so I'm fully entitled to bestow my "buddies" with some rep.

Well, the fairest way to do it all would be to disable giving rep to anyone outside of this "section" and then have it so the trader rep can only be seen in the person's profile (so as to stop claims of elitism) or just in this section. After all, trader rep is only relevant to this section.

BTW, the rep system seems broke to me, anyone who goes over +10 gets reverted back to +1. Rush job? :dabs:

If you want to view comments on amy members trade you can view it their profile. Weve removed the ability to view who left the trade as that isnt needed and dont think that should be public so as far as anonyminity goes it may be better this way.

[User] has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her. :-/
You may be out of luck and have to move foward. The new system has many benifits and the prior has served its course. You could link a member your rating on the the prior list. Think thats the best you can do perhaps.

You're getting there. Now make it so you can only see it in the person's profile, the rest of the board isn't really interested in how many invites somebody gave out from Demonoid or the like. If you need to check a person's rep you can click their profile and I'm sure there's a way to make a league table as well.

Also, people are more likely to abuse the system if they are earning little green boxes under their avatars. In much the same way that people spam for little stars above their name.

In the user's profile, you can click on the "Find all posts by..." or "Find all threads started by..." links to find a post in order to give points if the trade initiated in a thread they didn't post in. Just pick any thread, I'm sure they won't mind.

The default for vb rep points when you signup is 10 so that is equal to 0 points. Might take a look if its possible to change that for all members later on.

Its really funny, but this was a point that I was just going to make. I am not saying that this user did this, but it fits what I was going to bring up.

At least with the old system you could see the names of the users that gave them the trusted trader +1. I do understand the need for an automated system, but I think that there should be a list of who gave the user the trusted trader click. Look at all the people on here that have multiple accounts at BT sites, whats to stop them from having multiple accounts here and clicking away?

The intention is that when a member reaches a high Trading Rep its more accurate that they truly are a Trusted Member as they had to get each point from a different member. Members dont need to know how many good trades youve made with another member just that you have. When putting this together was clear that being able to give more that a point to a member has little positives for the system yet could have negatives such as faked and inflated ratings...

I ask because I havent been active on the trading scene lately since the new system but had a 10+ on the old system. So if I PM ppl who gave +1 in the past asking them to rep me in the new system, is it Ok??

Your mouse is on the Buddy List which is NOT where you add Rep points. The member profile is just to look at Rep and you can NOT give it there. You must click the icon to the left of a post. These are the instuctions on adding a point...

It's becuase everyone has an extra ten rep points in their profile. You really only have 49 points, therefore you only have 9 green things. If you check my profile I have 5 rep points but it says 15.
