I have Windows XP Home Edition and a Compaq computer and I want to reinstall my computer,a clean reinstallation cuz some driver is wicked and makes my computer crash all the time.

I have 2 partions is my computer which I had whe I bought the computer, one is the normal (C:/) and the other one is (D:/) which have files needed to reinstall the computer using "Recovery CD"
One day I was stupid and wanted too see what would happed if I formated the (D:/) partion and after that,I couldnīt reinstall my computer anymore with the Recovery CD so I called their service and they sended me a "QuickRestore CD" and with it I could reinstall my computer.

But now my graphic driver is fucked up,it makes my computer crash all the time and I have tried to uninstall it and then install the latest driver from Nvidia but it still crashes. This have only happen after I used the QuickRestore CD to get my computer to work again.I have tried to reinstall my computer using Recovery CD which worked after using the QuickRestore CD but it still crash.

Can someone tell me what should I do to make the driver not to crash even if it means reinstalling the computer in some "magic" way.

oddly enough I was kind of discussing this earlier :)

Do you have a copy of your windows installation disk (or at least a backup of your c:\i386\ directory on a CD) and a dos disk with fdisk? I usually find a format hits the spot in such circumstances! :D

I strongly recommend that you F Disk first.

There is a great guide on doing so at Black Viper's Website:

But first, read this guide:

http://www.blkviper.com/Articles/OS/Instal...tallxphome1.htm (http://www.blkviper.com/Articles/OS/InstallXPHome/installxphome1.htm)

http://www.blkviper.com/Articles/OS/fdisk/fdisk1.htm

That should help you out.

But don'r forget that you need to set BIOS to boot from whatever boot sequence you need.

This is exactly why I don't want to ever buy a PC from one of those "Premade" computer firms. They don't provide you with a "real" version of Windows even though you paid for it.

If I were you I would download the Windows XP Corporate Edition and format the C: partition. That way you can start from scratch and not have to rely on Compaq anymore for support.

You can keep your D: for data storage so that whenever you want to reinstall your system you won't erase that.

I got stuck at the first step,I have no XP CD,only Recovery and QuickRestore CD

I have heard that downloading a XP version can fuck up the computer too and it is not possible to install Service pack 1 or shit like that.

You won't physically "fuck up" your PC with software.

And it is possible to install SP1 on the Corp. Edition as long as you don't use a blacklisted key. (Get the 'bluelist' keygen)

In fact, download a bootable XP Corp. Edition with SP1 incorporated. That way you will already have SP1 when you install your OS.

I agree, go for getting yourself a copy of corp edition. You will be able to reinstall just fine - worry about the SP1 later, that's the easy bit!

ok anyone know where I can download it cuz if itīs a .BIN file, then it will problably be corrupt anyway.l

Somebody1234
05-17-2003, 09:35 PM
Boy, talk about a negative attitude. It's corrupt before you even start.

Look at this as a challenge. Once you succeed you will be pleased with yourself that you no longer have to rely on that recovery/restore disk.

Try downloading one from the verifieds and if that doesn't work try eMule or some other p2p.

If you get the .bin file be sure to get the .cue file that goes with it so that the CD is bootable.

Take your time and good luck. :D

Is there any place with verifed stuff using eMuke?

Your recover disk should be bootable too.

Go to BIOS and tell it to boot from disk (leave the only checked option as --active drive--

Didn't you get any tech support with your computer?

I recently installed with this

File: winxp.iso (sig2dat:///|File:winxp.iso|Length:512342016 Bytes,500334KB|UUHash:=1prRNtesbgj0TZsIfjRuRBt4LDg=|)
Length:512342016 Bytes,500334KB
UUHash:=1prRNtesbgj0TZsIfjRuRBt4LDg=

I didn't check to see if the disk booted tho, I installed from DOS but I got no errors during the installation process. You will need a WinXP Corporate edition cd key to get it running obviously!

Thanx for all the answer but Im not a "computer master" so I dont know anything about BIOS or whatever.

The thing I know now is If I download this "Windows XP Corporate Edition" with included SP1 and then get a "blue list keygen" (which I have no idea where to get it) and format my (C:/) drive and then install it.

But if I format the (C:/) drive, then wouldnīt my computer to not work anymore?

The .iso version should be bootable if you burn it directly from the image file. (Don't extract the .iso)

Any ol' newbie can boot to BIOS.

As you boot, (with your recovery disk), tap the F2 key several times, which will take you to setup. If that does not work, tap F12 as you boot.

That will take you to BIOS.

Find the selection called "boot sequence," press return. Select the drive containing the recover CD and NO OTHER.

forget keygens, forget servicepacks. Just get a working copy of WinXP (the iso I posted for instance!), satisfy yourself that it is valid. Make sure you have a corporate product key and just reinstall! Hell, you can even do it from windows if you want just by inserting the CD & selecting install windows! (I wouldn't personally do it that way but I've been through more than a few installs!).

Bootable means that you insert the disk, you power on your PC and the installer will launch itself.

As you boot, (with your recovery disk), tap the F2 key several times, which will take you to setup. If that does not work, tap F12 as you boot.
Some BIOS require you to press the [del] key to enter the BIOS. The info should be in the motherboard manual but if you really can't get into your BIOS we can help you further. We would need the motherboard model or the exact compaq model.

Well, don't buy any drivers, ok?

What graphics driver are you refering to?

If you are looking for a driver for your display adaptor card then please tell us what card.

Maker and model?

I most probably will be able to find an updated version of the driver if you provide that info.

LIke I said,Im not so good with computers when it comes to hardware stuff so I think I wrote wrong,I meant a new graphic card.

The one I have now is Nvidia and I have the latest driver. It never crashed for about a half year but then when I formatted my (D:/) drive and reinstalled my computer using QuickRestore, then it would crash always.

Somebody1234

Perhaps it is the latest driver that is causing the problem.

Go here: http://download.guru3d.com/detonator/ and download the Nvidia Detonator version 43.00 and try that one instead.

nope it canīt be cuz I already downloaded that one before and still crash.

And the crashes all happen after I formated my (D:/) drive.
It never crashed even once a half year ago before I formated the (D:/) drive.
